Has any one out there ever usued the I.A.S Edelbrock performance shocks? I was just wondering if they make a big improvment over stock. I have a 2000 4x4 club cab 4.7. I dont plan on going off-road (too much) and I want to take the curves a little more agressivly.

They're supposed to be very good, but kinda over-priced. I want pretty much the same performance that you do.... firm (not stiff) road handling, without too harsh of a ride. The stock shocks are just WAY too mushy, especially for the "handling " package.... feels like I'm driving an Olds Ninety-Eight with a bed in the back.

I'm gonna go with the Explorer Pro Comp 9000's. About $30.00 ea as opposed to $70.00 ea for the Edelbrocks.

Just installed Monroe Reflex shocks. Great improvement over stock. Improved handling in tight curves, less road bumps through steering. Cost about $40 apiece.

I installed the IAS shocks. I think that they are great. They handle great and ride quality sure improved. The truck is not springy anymore up front. They are expensive, but when you want the best, you have to pay for it.

I have heard that stock shocks are made to last about one year before their usefulness is worn out. Any big name aftermarket shock manufacturer will be a great improvement. I use SkyJacker's personally, but if you are thinking about IAS Edelbrocks, you might also check in to the Rancho RSX shocks. Apparently the same thing, only cheaper. Edelbrock makes good stuff, but is so dang expensive.

I have 45,00 on my stock shocks and they still pass the bumper bounce test, which is the only test that Monroe Shock Absorber Company says is reliable. By the way, Why would you go to a comany that is best known for intake manifolds and buy shockes from them. Its sorta like going to McDonalds and ordering a pizza isn't it????? Talking about big names on aftermarket, Monroe makes the originals for your late model Dak. How do I know??? Work for a machine manfg. that built the machines that stuffs the rubber bushings and the steel sleeve into the ends of them for Monroe.
That is what Monroe's engineer told us that the particular machines were going to be used for.

I ordered the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks yesterday. I found them for $59 a piece + $15 shipping. That's $251 total. Not bad, eh?

I just ordered up some IASs. I wouldn't use Monroe as there quality has been pretty bad the last few years. I had to replace several Gas-matics, and Sensitracks because they were junk. I won't take a chance with Monroe again.

Sure edelbrock may be know for intakes but it really doesn't take much to build a shock. It is a fairly simple device. Quite frankly I trust a company who has their reputation on the line in racing where hard use is the norm over an OEM supplier (Monroe) who could care less about defective product.

My shocks are shot. The front wheels bounce up and down quite awhile after passing over the cracks in the roadway. Bad enough even the wife noticed it.

We have 36,000 on the Quad after 1-1/2 years... If the OEMs are Monroes then I'm glad I didn't get those.

Somewhere I heard the OEM shocks are Gabriel Gas Ryders. My father had a new set of those leak down gas pressure and the dampening went to nil.

So I ordered the Edelbrocks last night for all four corners...

Just put a set of IAS Performer on the front of my 01 QC 4x4. Didn't have time for the rears yet.

Talk about a big sh*^t eating grin :)

I was really impressed with this shock. It really seems to do exactly what they say. Stomp on the binders and she doesn't plow, yet hit a speed bump and up over and no bounce.

I've been really impressed so far. Can't wait to get the rears on.

I did have one issue with the install. Edelbrock sends you an aluminum spacer for the lower shock bolt. My passenger side shock would not pass through the upper A arm without rubbing if I used the spacer. Anybody have this problem?

I've had the IAS shocks on two different trucks. They are well worth the dollars. Better ride, better handling, better control under braking.

Having been a ride guy with the supplier of shocks for Daimler. The OEM is Cofap who was bought out by Magneti Marelli in 1997. They make the shocks for Dakota, Ram, Durango and the B-vans.
We did test a mono-shock with the ais system, Not sure which brand. it did improve the off-road yet had some compromise the balance of the truck though.
The best price I have seen is $69/ea. Still looking for less.

I just found this out myself, but Edelbrock makes 2 kinds of IAS shocks. Monotube and twintube. The twintubes arent even advertised in their website but I found them in the Summit online catalog. I just installed a pair and did not like them. Not at all. They cost 26 from Summit. The other type is a monotube, which is supposed to be the best because of the monotube design which sheds heat faster and is longer lasting because of this. The monotube design is a better design. Only Edelbrock monotubes and Bilstein seem to make this design shock for trucks. About 70 bucks.
As a sidenote, I did not like Rancho 5000 shocks but am in love with my Rancho RSX. Just my .02

The 2003 Edelbrock catalog shows application for R/T. Would these work with a Sport with 2-3" drop?

I installed 4 Edelbrock IAS last week. They make a huge difference in the ride and handling of the Dak; smooth over bumps, nice controlled cornering. The truck is an absolute blast on a curvy road. The front shocks with the R/T part number were hard to come by, so I have the regular IAS fronts and R/T rears. This works out anyway for me because of the drop control arms and 2" rear blocks. $260 for the set, but well worth the change in the Dak's attitude. '01 RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92
