Can anyone tell me if the 1.7 rockers will change the exhaust tone of my truck like a cam will. 2002 R/T. Probably a stupid question but I am curious.

Somewhat--- more so on V8 than a V6.

Here's a little taste of what it COULD sound like.

:)

Got a special going on heads and cam right now too.

Flowmaster 40 series, 2 chamber-- Mopar headers-- 3" from header Y pipe to the stock cat (cat opened to 3" in/out).. 3" out of the flowmaster, splits to 2- 2.5" over the axle to Proglass roll pan w/Megs oval tips (I was too cheap to go Cuda tips, but glad I did now-- 'Different')

The heads/cam made a world of difference on power and the exhaust note changed quite a bit. The 1.7s were on the truck prior to the heads/custom cam-- and are still going strong after nearly 60k miles (just changed lifters, and rollers are good as gold.) 1.7s on a stock head/cam combo work well, and do add a slight lobe to the idle.

Looking to do a 402/408 soon-- With even more stuff--

The stuff I go through and try, is all that I sell.

If you have any questions, give me a shout.

The idle sound shouldnt really be too noticeable. What gives you that "lope" at idle is overlap in the cam. The amount of degrees that the intake and exhaust valves are open together. The 1.7's add more lift to the cam which really wouldnt effect the sound at idle. Due to the different geometry they may possibly add a bit more duration, but I doubt it would be noticeable. The are a very good mod on a truck with a stock cam/heads combo.

Thanks for the replies guys. I noticed it got louder with the M1. Just wondering what the rockers will do? Will I see a big increase in performance? Also if I decide to go with a cam do I need to go back to the 1.6 ratio?

If you PLAN on going to a cam-- do the lift in the cam, and run 1.6 ratio rockers-- easier to get the geometry right, and more choice in cam profiles.

Mine was an afterthrough-- did the 1.7s with no intention on going to a cam/heads... a year later--- Hmm.. let's do a cam and heads.

You CAN do a cam with 1.7s, but you need to know there are limitations, and you need to have the cam ground based on 1.7 ratio rockers. Most advertised cams are for 1.6 ratio--- Adding 1.7s to a .500 lift cam, will net you a .53x lift cam. The closer you get to .540-- well, then you get into piston/valve clearance issues-- As well as larger duration, and then the computer isn't happy, etc.

The 1.7s DO make a little bit of lope over stock--- the duration is affected slightly, but the faster ramp rate creates a bit of the lobe, and a different sound from your exhaust as well.
