Oki its a 98 4x4, 318, 5speed manual.

I got about $1000 to spend

What i wanna get so far

-Msd 6a and blaster ss coil
-napa cap and rotor
-hypertech ppIII
-midas bilstein flush then mobil 1 syn
-redline in the axles and trans
-new bellypan gasket
-true dbl roller timing chain
-its already got the k&n drop in. Would homemade cold air intake and k&n cone make much difference?
-iat relocation
-autolite 3923 plugs
-tps adjustment
-180 thermostat, robertshaw or stant?

There is a lite film of oil in the intake. Does this justify gasket replacing?

When i have the intake off sould i do anything to it?

Which oil filter should i use?

Which plug wires? taylor?

Any other maintenance stuff or mods reccomended?

Thanks a bunch

IF you are doing a timing chain you may as well do a cam swap as well.

it might push you over your budget but you should look into an exhaust system, a catback from gibson and some headers from jba, also, jba makes some nice spark plug cables, i have a set, they are very high quality, they call them 'power cables'. good luck getting the wiring harness for the accel coil anytime soon, they have been on backorder forever, plus there is a lot of guys on here that have had problems with accel coils, buy the msd blaster ss, it is less money and a nicer coil, it really isnt to big of deal to cut and splice two wires into it either.

Right now its got stock exhaust>flowmaster>3in tube. I was thinkin of eventualy goin headers>y pipe>high flow cat/no cat>3in>flowmaster>3in. Think that would be an ok setup?

I called up summit and they say they got the adapter in stock. Otherwise i woulda gone with the ss, plus im lazy. Can you mount the ss to the stock coil location? Or whats the easyest way to mount it. I dunno i might still go ss. Its 20 bux cheaper than the accel and harness.

Off to clean the TB =)

the ss coil wont mount in the stock location but i have a k&n fipk and will be mounting it on the heat shield, not to far from the stock location, plus it will be more visible. actually the ss will be 28 bucks cheaper, the coil is 6 less than the accel coil plus the 22 for the harness. it kinda adds up quick, $28 just for not cutting the two wires and getting a less powerful coil? not worth it to me once i thought about it.

ryan at v8performance.com has the hypertechs for only 325, if you talk nice you might be able to get him to 300, he had them at that for a while, his site is new but i bought the k&n from him and he was very good to work with.

sorry, forgot to add about the exhaust, the setup that you would like would be great, i would love to have one like that i just dont have the cash right now. i would keep a cat on the vehicle though, not sure how strict they are where you live but i do like clean air and do see the need for helping the emissions of vehicles, plus without it you will have to spend for a catbox or you will throw a code.
