I just got an '03 Dakota Club Cab 4x4 with a 4.7L V-8 and I'm lookin for some cheap mods i can do to get a little horsepower, the only problem is i really don't want to kill my fuel economy. Does anyone know of any mods that will give me some added performance without jacking up my gas bill?

Try getting a new air intake such as a K&N FIPK or similar, larger diameter exhaust, and a MSD ignition set-up. All should help with mileage and power.

also get a performance programmer from hypertech or a performance chip form jet. both can increase gas milage along with the intake and exaust.

I have picked up 2 mpg in the city and 3-4 on the highway on a 2003 4.7L, 5-speed, 3.92LS, Ram 4x4 with the mods listed. I have tonneau cover on the way, which should help on the fuel mileage. The most effective mod so far was the fan removal or the intake. Hope this helps.

3" muffler in place of stock muffler (has mandrel bent 2-3/4" tailpipe
custom "true" cold air intake (no exposure to engine air)
Robertshaw 180 stat and Redline Water Wetter
Removed clutch fan, installed electric fan on thermal switch

You cant get a msd ignition set up because it has coil over plug set up. It has plenty of spark.
