Alright. I'm looking to put in a few mods on my Dak. The four angry squerels are hungry. I would like to put in a 4.0L jeep TB, a spacer made for it, a MSD ignition amp, and a new cam. My question is. What Cam do I get for my truck that will give me the best performance without messing up my idle? That, and what has anyone else done with thier four popper?

You guys have the overhead cam or the pushrod engine? We put a turbo on an OHC engine in a
GenI Dak and it kicked some serious a$$. Used Dodge Shadow parts and modified to fit the Dak.

I just recieved my MOPAR engine book the other day. It gives a good look at the 2.5L. I will use the book for some good information on how the engine was built and take it from there for performance type stuff. They have thier own products mentioned in the book stuff like headers and ign. amplifiers. It might prove usefull. I would like to get more information on the turbo idea. It wouls sure kick but with a turbo. I have just done some simple stuff like put a Flowmaster Cat and muffler in, then I put a new set of wires from Accel and some Bosch +4 plugs. I also took of the crappy air box setup. I just put a cold air intake filter directly on the TB. It sounded better and gave me a noticible improvment over the stock. It runs pretty good for just four. I sure do give my friend in his vortec S-10 a run for his money. I blow him away with top speed though. He has a governor at 90mph. It almost kills the engine. Give it a pretty good jerk, to slow the truck down. He kills me in thrd gear though. He has all that nice torque. Thats why I would like to get a new cam installed, with headers.

i asked once bout that turbo setup . and have heard that i have the magnum motor , different from the gen 1 mentioned earlier, and that it is more difficult to turbo than somethign liek that gen 1. but i have also gotten feed back that it would be very possible and readily do-able. around here there is a turbo tacoma that runs low 13s in the quarter. anyhow itd definately be a custom job but i am going to look into it anyhow .

Just chucked the +4's... They suck as*... I do realise that having 4 electrodes is really no better than one, for the pupose of a good spark. The spark will still only go to the easiest ground. But the whole point of having four is that they should not foul up as quick. Good idea but it doesn't work. At least not in my truck.

I'm also trying to look at turbo kit for the Jeep 2.5. It's the same engine but it seems that they make more performance parts under the jeep name. My guess is because more people out there got stuck with a 4cyl jeep than poor me with the 4cyl Dak. You all may think that I am wasting my time and should put a for sale sign on my truck. Believe me I have truly though about doing just that. But I also see this as an opportunity to say that I have the time and ability to make even a 4cyl truck fast. I may be retarded but I do remember a Mopar car that had a 4cyl screamer, that was smaller than my trucks. Infact, they've had quit a few when you think about it.

Alright I have some questions if you don't mind. Me and a few other people would like to see the supercharger for the Jeep 2.5 on our 2.5L Dodge Dakotas.
We would like to know what the results were for the 2.5L. It looks realy nice and would sure help with power, but how much? And what would be the final price for a complete system. Where can we get it installed, or if we cant how long is the proccess of putting one in. Would we have to upgrade other parts, for strength and reliability? Or is it just a simple bolt-on?
Thanks for your time and consideration.

The people @ www.dodgedakotas.com, and me personnaly thank you for any answered questions.

yeah back onto the turbo idea again i also havent found a kit for our trucks . tom slick told me to email him and i did but no feed back and then speedtweaks is gone so forget about that. as far as custom job yes it would have to be . there are a few shops around my area that probably could do it but $$$$$ is the only thing holding me back now. i figure that after all the work the cost of getting a turbo would be almost the same price as that supercharger. so its really just a question of preference.

I would sure like to know more about that 2.5l turbo minivan engine. What year is it from? What Type of van? Maybe I could find a good one in the salvage yards around AZ. I would have to see it but I have no problem if I could just get the manifold and other stuff. I miiiight be able to get it to work but I would have to see it... Do you have any more information or pictures? E-mal them to me if you do... JustinHinton@hotmail.com

Justy,

Your truck is non American. Last time I looked DaimlerChrysler was based in Stuttgart. That makes your Dakota no more and no less American than a Mazda B2000 or a Toyota Tacoma.

Second, good luck fitting an engine from a FWD mini van into your RWD pickup truck and finding a tranny to mount it up to.

Third, TB spacers and turbo's are RICE. Your Jeep engine will never ever be a power house and even if you couls squeeze more power out of it it would do you no good. You want torque to move a big heavy truck off the line. The only ways to make torque are 1)increase the number of cylinders, 2)increase the displacement 3)increase the compression ratio.

Your best route is to either drop in a 5.9 and it's matching tranny (you didn't say whether it's an auto or a manual) or sell it and buy a Honduh like all the ricers own.

Hi, this question has probably been asked a few times. But bear with me... I want to put a different motor in my 2.5 95 dakota sport 2x4 -- doesn't have to go mach 1. Just something that will give it a little snap, the 4 cyl is dying and rather than spend $ to fix it. Figured I'd spend a little more and make a toy. Any assistance on motor/tranny combos that have worked would be appreciated!

Thanks, Rolf
