should be the same transmission, the 3.9L is the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 273, 318(5.2), 340, and 360(5.9).

that is not really what i need to know.i want to know if the v6 5 speed tranny will work with a v8. i heard some rumors that the 5 speed transmission that came with the v8 is different than the one that came with the v6.

The Magnum V6 (until 2000) came with the AX15 tranny. Since, then it comes with the NV3500 tranny (same as V8). Either one will technically bolt up to a 318 or 360, but the NV3500 is better suited for the application.

Have to check with the dealership and see what tranny you have first. I have a 92 V6 with 5 speed tranny and I have the NV3500 which is the same one that comes with the V8. I would check which transmission you have, if it's the NV3500 it will work with the V8.

Hope this helps
