Hey guys,
I posted on here to see what a 2003 R/T RC would run in the 1/4. Well I just got back from the track. Here was what I ran.

15.284@88.90
15.250@88.71

On both runs I left the truck in drive launching at 1500 with the rear tire pressure at 25psi. The second run I upped the front tire pressure to 44psi.

The truck has 1200 miles on it. Are these good times? I have ordered an intense performance stage II intake with the 9" big mouth filter. I'd like to get the truck in the 14's any other things you guys could suggest. I was gonna try shifting manually at 5000rpm will this make a difference.

With all of that I would hope I would make 14's. I got almost 2 tenths in the quarter just out of a k&n filter with my mustang. Underdrive pulleys game me another 3 tenths. I should mention I ran with 3/4 full of gas also. What I was asking was are their any tricks to get time off from? Like with the mustang you can remove the air silencer. I know about the flap next to the radiator and moving the iat sensor. How much of a difference do these mods make. I see some people say the truck get faster once you get some milage on them. How true is this? Is it better to shift manually or leaving it in drive. How high of an rpm can I get away with whenlaunching the truck? My 60' times were both 2.1.

One thing Mithrac ,
If you decide to shift manually from 1-2 , I would shift about 3-400 rpms earlier then when you want it to shift. Theres a lag. I tryed manually shifting when I first got my R/T and I put the shifter in 1st and took it up to 5,000 rpms and shifted , it didnt shift until 5,500. It hit the rev limiter and stumbled and bucked. I thought I broke something.
I would put the shifter in 2nd and let the truck shift itself from 1-2 and you shift from 2-3 at about 4800. Try that.

Your 15.2 is pretty good. I ran 15.5 with K&N , headers , exhaust , and throttle body my 1st couple trys.
Your already ahead of that.

One thing you might wanna do is try a run with you shifting at like 4600 the first 2 gears. Until you dyno your truck you will not know where the max horsepower is. Try a lower RPM maybe its right there.

Thanks for your input guys. I have been reading posts on here saying R/T's are really slow. I have a Mustang that runs high 11's on spray and high 12's on motor. I truck felt really slow to me. It really suprised me. It's alot quicker then I though it would be. Especially with what all the 4.7 owners on here say. 15.2 is better than I expected for stock. I'm hoping the intake will give me a tenth or two. Then maybe a set of colder plugs and a thermostat will put me in the 14's. Maybe?

Dude, you don't want to shift right at your peak horsepower. If you do that, the truck will drop right out of the powerband. You should shift about 300 RPM after the peak hp.

No I mean shift it at your peak...It revs up about 250-350 RPM's after you shift it. So that way you will be just right :)

I used to driving alot faster 5 speed car. I have shifted manually before in the truck. It pulls hard up to 5000rpm. I was thinking about shifting manually at 5000rpm but it rained at the track. I guess I will have to wait to next time to really find outif it will make a difference. A dyno will tell you alot but trial and error at the track gives you real world results which is why I was asking if anybody has picked up time shifting manually.

I dropped .3sec last time I went. I let the truck shift from 1-2 about 5200 and I shifted 2-3 about 5500-5600. I never revved it that high but it musta helped. I also have the M1 intake so it still makes power past 4500 where the stock intake falls off.
I also dropped .05 on my 60ft. time on that run so theres a tenth off my ET.

Theres no end to how much $$$ your gonna spend to make that thing faster.

Get that cold air intake thing , 180* stat and get a good launch and you should see a high 14.

15.2!! I ran my truck to get a base line before I put the supercharger on and it ran a 14.8 stock!! I just ran it with the supercharger, 13.5 baby!!!! There are a few tunning tricks I will do to get me into really low 13s. Plus my truck is a real truck with comfort, good looks and fullsize status, not that little mini bargan basement slow truck status. Trade up boys, there could be a Lightning or SS with your name on it out there!!!

Mithrac - Forget that Intense Performance intake. It still uses the stock airhat, which is the biggest flow problem. Spend an extra $50-60 and get the K&N FIPK. The one for a 2002 will fit your 2003.

Yo SS, I woudl have loved to come up there and show you my N/A R/T, but I need to fix my blown head gasket first. Give me time and I WILL meet you up in Sac and race. To say I "turned you down" for a race is far from the truth. Quit posting lies like you have. You ran a 14.8 bone stock?? What was wrong with the guy who could only muster a 15.2 stock that posted on the SS forums?? You never posted any times here before, and it's only been two weeks since youfirst came here. So in two weeks, you have gone from not running your truck yet, to a 14.8 bone stock, to a 13.5 with a SC?? On the 4th, you posted you started modding already, and hadn't taken your truck to a track yet, so when did you find time to pull off this 14.8 run bone stock?? Or is your version of bone stock including aftermarket headers, the Hypertech programmer, and exhaust?? Come on now. When I get my truck fixed(it's still driveable, just loses excess amount of oil) I'll schedule a R?T gathering at Sac so you can have your pick of R/T's to kick your ass. And I still drive my truck hard despite the blown head gasket. Beat a SC'd Thunderbird the other day to 120mph, but the truck didn't like it very much. Just waiting on Crower to get their act together and send me some new lifters.

I haven't had the chance to run a Silverado SS but I have seen one run. Same night I ran my truck. The guy pulled a 15.4@86mph. Guess he didn't know how to come off the line with that awd. I know they are built all the same so you may have pulled a 14.8 but if I wanted to put the additional $20,000 into my truck I think I could pick up .4 seconds. Hell I would have saved myself $6,000 and whipped your a$$ with a lightning.
