Ok, I got in the stage 3 and it looks and sounds awesome, but my question is......where that plastic duct mounts to the fender, that area in there doesnt seem like it would pull in that much airflow. That pocket thats in the fender didnt look to have all that many holes to draw in cool air(I put this in late at night, so correct me if im wrong). If that is the case, anyone modify that to suck in more air....like cutting or drilling some more holes? thanks

Chris,
Think about the stock air box in the 4.7 (I'm not sure if the Dakota is too much different than the Durango) but the 'little' funnel piece at the very end was smaller than the IP tubes duct. Either wasy, the duct will pull a lot of air as in most physics classes you learn that gases go towards least resistence. So if your truck is sucking in air, the air will find its way into the duct. Also, as long as that 'pocket' you were talking about is larger than the ducts opening, I think you will be fine. Hope that helps.

Yeah the pocket in the fender that the duct mounts in is larger, but I thought I only saw a couple small holes in that pocket to actually suck in air into that pocket, then into the intake? Im gonna have to see, and look at it again, and take some pics. Chris

I also was thinking about getting the Ztube but was looking at extending the tube to the rubber flap in the front grill (on the passengers side). I have already cut a 3-4" hole in the flap, my question I guess is if I extended the tube to the hole already cut would this help get some pressure to the Ztube, better then through the fender? I think I'm looking for the same thing that Chris Allen is looking for going this route.

I have a 99 cc 5.2 5 speed.

I have a Stage III for the 5.2. It comes with an adapter to put the hose through the rubber flap. Email John and he'll probably hook you up with one, if it uses the same size intake tube.

If you're talking about the fender well getting enough air, it comes from the bottom of the windshield, not just the tiny holes you can see in the fender.

If you weren't talking about that, sorry, never mind.

I have the StageIII on my Durango with the 4.7L engine... I don't think the engine is starved for air at all. In fact, when you floor it you can hear the engine suck the air into the tube ... It's hard to miss! I would safetly assume that I am getting plenty of air. Also, out of the few dozen people on DurangoClub.Com who have the Stage III for the variety of Dodges engines, no one has complained about not getting enough air. I don't think this should be a concern. Thanks.

Any one dyno the stage 3 on a 4.7 yet ? Or know why K&N lists dyno results and IP doesn't ? Not trying to slam IP, I'd just like to know what intake really makes the most power.
