I know its not a 4.7 but I beat a 5.0 last night in my R/T. I think it was a early 90's model(square body) He was at my bumper when I hit 60! First 5.0 I ever raced! I'm runnin low 14's though and I dont know if he had any mods besides exhaust but that thing was louder than my truck!

Heavy modded 5.0's run 12 flat all day long. Stroke them, and you're deep into the 11's, if not high 10's. You gotta love them for the speed per dollar ratio they provide...

If the 'Stang doesn't win, it's cause the driver
sucks, or the 'Stang has an automatic and/or a
worn-out trac lok like a lot of them do.

My "summer beater" Mustang will run circles
around my Dakota (although the 'kota does a
much better job of hauling my ski boat).

Any early fox-body Mustang ('87-93) with a
stick should run about 98 mph in the quarter
and be in the high 13's easy.

Hell, my '88 LX runs 13.70 @100 with a 2.2
(pathetic) 60'. That's with over 100,000 HARD
miles (it burns a quart of oil every 600 miles or
so)!

It runs 12.70@ 107 with a 75 horse dry shot.
I'm going to try the 150 horse jets this summer
and hope for 11's on street tires.

As far as cheap fun cars go, it's tough to beat
an old 5.0.
