No clutch fan,180 t-stat,flexalite thermostatic switch,360 kool shot air intake,bosch plat. +4s(4418s).

Mechanic at work took my truck for a spin and noticed off idle stumble. You know off idle it all of a sudden goes, not very smooth. Sure enough I pop the hood and flick the throttle and pffft-vroom,pffft-vroom.(I never noticed till he did but its there)

OK, so i figure the TPS adj. is in order so mechanic throws on his OTC monitor(software only good thru 01 dakotas, but still read TPS voltage in percent) and we get 12.1%=.601,not that far off? 15.2% would give me .76,16%=.80. Figuring this is a percentage of 5 volts(right?).

Before I drill out TPS he suggested I take it to dealer so they dont see it and deny coverage. He says it could be a lot of things, TPS(monitor wouldnt let him depress accelerator to check continuity of voltage coming from TPS),could be reading wrong temp. i.e. computer problems etc.

I dont want to go to dealer if I dont have too. You know, put air hat back on, explain my thermostatic switch and 180 t-stat. I can hear it now, "thats why, its running too cold". And God forbid I forget to put the fan clutch back!

Anyway, bringing it to dealer may be prudent but I would like some opinion on this please. Would TPS adj. fix it?

Thanks for advice HSKR. I see from previos posts you dont like Bosch plat. Was hoping they worked out for convience sake, oh well. I`ll see what else I hear on here, plugs might be first to check. I`ll post results. God they are a pain to get at though:{

I have heard several people who own late model GenIII Daks, and who have installed the 180 T-stats, say that they developed a hesitation off idle. They reinstalled the stock T-stats and the problem went away. I have a 2002 and bought the 180 Robert Shaw, but I declined to install it with colder plugs after reading about this. ???

I put back the stock 195 for the winter this year. No difference in performance or gas miliage. Never had any issues with codes or heat with the 180 just wanted to see if there was any difference. In the summer I may put it back along with the clutch fan(I tow in summer). I guess you might see slight performance gains if the reg 4.7 had a knock sensor(s) and running cooler allowed the computer to advance timing. I mainly want it to run a little cooler in summer and have the thermostatic switch wired so it`s always on. It will run the electric fan even after shutting the motor off which I like because it counters heat soak.

I remember one of the ole Mopar Dusters in my town when I was growing up that ran 1/4mile 10's on a 360 with NOS. He ran an electric water pump that continued to circulate long after he turned the motor off. The car was sweet, we called it the "Purple People Eater" because it was a nice deep purple and the motor was painted with the same purple used on the body.

He used to trade weekely bragging rites of being the fastest in town/county with a much heavier 'Cuda powered by a 440 with NOS that also ran low 1/4 mile 10's.

Ah, the memoriesssssss of going out to the local road way out in B.F.E. and watching the locals drag....we even had the occasional cop come out and run his cruiser against one of the locals before running everyone off.
