i posted a few weeks ago how i was gonna race my friends truck , which is a 2001 chevy 1500 xtra cab with the 4.8 liter 2wd. i said it was stock but i forgot to say he had straight pipes from the cats back and he has a k&n drop in filter. and my truck is a 2001 r/t cc with k&n intake and 3923 auotlites. well we finally raced and the conditions where: 70 degrees at about 800 feet on a bad asphalt road . when i say bad i mean it wasnt the smooth type ashpalt it was the cheap bumpy asphalt that they put on country roads. well when we launched he had little to none on tire spin but i extremely overwhelmed my tires, before that race i was only able to spin 10 to 15 feet but when we raced i musta spun 50 feet or more, i think it was the road we were on. anyways when i gained traction i was at his back bumper and gained on him pretty strong . we let of at about 85 and at that point my front bumper was about at his front fender. what do i need to do to get better traction, i know those kind of roads arent the best to race on but its all we have that is semi safe. we will go to the track one day which is 1/8th mile ill post then telling what happened . if we race again should i air down tires and if so how low . i have kumho ecsta 255/55/17 . i checked the pressure after the race and i was runnig 40 pounds so i imagine that didnt help either. sorry for the long post. and thanks in advance for any helpful replies

I would find a better road or wait for the track. You should have no problem kickin his butt!!! But he had the same conditions you did. So who knows........ have fun.

Best way to insure a good race is to know your own vehicle. Play with it and find your sweet spot, try to power brake it and find a better way of it not spinning. Remember at which RPM as well, is this one way... i know its hard my R/T spins like a mofo from hell. I'm not too sure ont the pounds of pressure in the tires. You may want to look into different tires with more traction, just give it a lil research. HAVE FUN!

Ha, Ha!!! You R/Ts can't beat a regular Silverado that is basicly stock and you think you can beat an SS!! You guys are dense. I guess that's why that R/T isn't coming up to Sacramento to race me. Good thing because my supercharger is going on this weekend! From the testing that has been done in Arizona (hot)I am looking at an easy 13.2 1/4 mile! See you in my rear view mirror losers!!!

You know I get pi$$ed when trolls from the brand X crowd come in here and talk smack, but I have lost just about every race I have had since I bought this R/T and I am regretting buying it. The only races I have won are against vehicles that I should kill(to embarrested to say what), but instead I barely win. And don't tell me to start modding, I shouldn't have to dump money into a vehicle that is supposed to be a performance truck. Any one want to buy a 02 regular cab R/T? I will sell it for what I owe just to get rid of it.

hey ss racer want to race another SS for $$. its nothing new its old school. bring your supercharger NOS or anything you can bolt on your bucket and ill smoke it all motor, pump gas.
dont cap on the 5.9s, your just bitter cuz your car/truck wasnt fast enough stock so you had to charge it.
ill i have to say is bring it!

You SS guys are so full of it. The other day, I stomped an SS from a rolling start (about 10 MPH), on up to about a 100 or so. By the time I hit 100, he was at least two truck lengths behind, and losing ground.
Oh, and I don't have an R/T. Just a plain jane regular cab Dakota with a 4.7 and a 5 speed. My only mods are the HO cams, an intake, and a flowmaster muffler.

hey 02 RT if you want a performance truck buy a lightning. but dont b!tch when you blow it up. haha the 5.9s are great reliable engines, just modify it and it will be as fast as your competitors.

No other truck motor can outrun the 5.9L stock for stock? I may own a Dakota but I can almost guarantee that a 5.3 will outrun a 5.9. Not flaming but I have yet to see a 5.9 outrun my buds 99 4X4 Silverado (regcab,LB, with a topper)
I definitely like the looks of a Dakota R/T though.

SSRACER it seems you have forgotten something the reason why HSKR wont be able to make this weekend is due to he has to defend poor excuses of men like you.He is in the Navy and my hats off to him and all the others that serve in the Military. I was also in the military by the way USMC and have a brother that is in the USAF so I think you should watch what you say and listen to the reason why he won't be able to make it.So what if your getting a Supercharger Installed think that gonna make ya KING OF THE HILL (NOT)HELL IF YOUR SO HELL BENT IN RACING YOUR POS I RACE YA AND NOT EVEN THINK TWICE because i have no shame if I lose or if I win its about having FUN not bashing others.

Well I must say that my years in the 99 dakota r/t CC have been excellent to say the least. The mopar computer, headers, cat forward pipes, intense perf. intake, mopar perf. wires, etc... really wake up the R/T The performance on the 99 seems to be much better than the new 02's I have seen. The R/T is a sweet truck and I have nothing but respect for the owners and crew here at the dodge dakotas board who have helped me out through the years. I just purchased a 2003 pearl white ford Lightning which I will be picking up tomarrow. I am really excited about this truck, and it should prove to be great on the street. I won't mess with the R/T's but I can not wait to blow the doors of the new silverado SS. Look out chevy!
To all the dodge dakota guys take care, and again thank you for all the help and support throughout the years!

I have a 02 Harley Supercrew(smoked grey) but I still have my 01 cc R/T. And I drive the R/T daily. I like them for different reasons. Though I have to say the mods on my R/T to do a very high 13 in my R/T cost me more than a few thousand dollars, and $600 dollars to do a low 13 in my Harley, the Harley cost 3k more than the R/T though(got a good deal). Different trucks but both good trucks, just like my kids, different from each other but I love them the same.

I'm sorry, but an R/T better beat a stock Chebby 5.3! My stock 4.7 4x4 eats them up all the time! I've raced at least 5 of them. All were very fair races, we both got good starts and everything. I'm sure that engine has potential once a few mods are done, but stock, a 4.7 rules them! I've also smoked a couple of 350's also. 5.3 does give me a better run though. I HAVE NEVER LOST A RACE TO A CHEVY TRUCK, OR FORD TRUCK (never raced a lighting either).
Actually, the best run I've had was w/ a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Supercharged. We were neck and neck till about 75 when my tourque advantage took over and pulled away.

MoparToYa, I'll have to agree with you. My 4x4 4.7 5-speed CC beats my friends 4x4 5.3 CC Chevy in a 0-80mph race, but not by much. My R/T beat it by more. Oh, and as for the Dakota vs. LS1 battle, be it an SS, WS6, Trans Am, whatever, there is no compairison. Stock on stock, the LS1 cars are nothing to mess with. I've seen completely stock SS's and WS6's run deep into the 13's, meaning, 13.1-13.3 ET's. Come on guys, Dakota's are nice trucks, but they're no compition for LS1 powered cars.

You guys are so much in denial. You beat Chevys, sure o.k., but if you do, you barely do it. Your R/T is supposed to be this great performance truck and it can barely beat a fullsized, heavy regular work truck Chevy! And you have to admitt, R/Ts do get beat by Silverados, just look at the first post on this thread! Admitt it, the R/T is a weak excuse for a sport truck. It may look the part, but it sure doesn't perform like it, just like that other Dodge joke the Ram SS/T!!! You guys need to get out of Dodge and stop letting them bull$hit you year after year. Believe it or not, I hang out here to try and talk some sence into you guys, and it must be working because some of you are trading into better trucks.

Well I hate to say it but I will be looking around today(it's my day off)for a new vehicle. Now keep in mind, I am just checking other options to dropping a bunch of money into my R/T till i'm happy. I keep hearing about all these great deals car dealers are giving. I have a long list of possibilities, not all are trucks. Wish me luck!

F150 we do not all here claim that the R/T is the almighty sport truck right out of the factory.
But i'll tell you what for the price it can't be beat...Compare your crap F150 or the Silverado SS etc and yep for many more thousands you are very close to a STOCK R/T or for that matter the 4.7 based Dakotas.
What a shame eh only Dodge has the guts to offer not 1 but 2 different V8 versions for a MID sized truck.
Ford..let me see in the midrange market...hmmm let's see....nope nothing there...
Oops forgot the RANGER... used mostly in sandbox's due to the lack of power and size...
GM....let me see in the midrange market...hmmm
Let's see....hey there it is the Chevy Extreme... sounds intimidating until the owner actually drives one...oh sorry chevy boys only a V6 available... time to join the ranger in the sandbox...
DODGE RULES! Simply NO competition in there class and price range.
...and throw that Dodge a bone(few bucks) and it will trash all price ranges including your expensive lightning bolt.

I am not in a hurry to get rid of my R/T, but I have a friend that was going to buy it (I posted a while back about selling my mods) but he got activated by the Air Force when the war started. He is still here at Travis Air Force base but may be headed out soon. If he goes ahead and buys it I will send all of you that e-mailed me about parts an e-mail. I may hold off on replaceing it just to see what new trucks and cars hit the market. Later.

Hey Bombtech, you mentioned Travis Air base, I am in Benicia. I wonder if you are one of the Dogs, I mean Dodges I have beat severally around here? I totally killed a 4.7 x-cab with big rims and exhaust not long ago, it was to funny! I have to admitt he was a good loser and we talked, said he was going to mod his truck more. Thats when he mentioned he would get advise here on this forum. All I have to say is you better give him A LOT of help, because he wasn't close at all. Take it easy, but take it.
