Message:
Do a search for 4.7 on ebaymotors , car&truck parts and accessories, I just got a set for $125, and there are only a few sets available. Definitely better than stock.

Built by Stone Mountain Racing in NC.

Good Luck!!

I've got a set sitting here right now. Let me warn you ahead of time, the welds are AWEFUL. This afternoon I started the task of grinding the messy welds smooth, wore my grinder bit down to nothing tho :P

For 125 bucks, can't expect much, I think with some work they can be pretty good with flowing air at least.

That's a CHEAP price these days. Good luck finding any at the local auto parts stores.

I just installed headers on my small block Chevy yesterday and I was SHOCKED to find that hardly anyone stocks headers these days!!!

I've bought headers for Chevy's and Ford's before and could WALK-IN Checker, Autozone, Pep Boys etc and buy them. We did this yesterday which was Sunday and of course Lopers performance isn't open on Sundays so we bought a pair that Autozone happened to have in stock at one store out of like 3 we checked.

What's the deal? Do these stores not stock true performance parts on their shelves since they started stocking gay ricer FAKE performance parts such as light up tail pipes, fart cans and intake tubes (HOT air intakes)???!!!

Oh yeah... more info on ricers:

Only email I know of is the one that goes through ebay or whatever, the one sent to me when I won the auction.

www.ssautochrome.com is their site, I can't find the headers for dakotas on there, but they obviously have them, cuz they're sitting here in front of me :)

Keep us posted on the install and whether they leak. I've been hearing different things about those guys and whether their headers are worth a poop.

I'll let ya' know what they're like when I get em'.
I do fortuanately know a pro-welder with the full shop so if the welds need a little help, the main thing is the tube size and length and how smooth the collector junction is.
These guys do have a lot of Quality parts and a LOT of good feedback on ebay, so I won't doubt that their headers are properly designed, but I also won't doubt that the welds aren't that great.

My suspicion is that they are buying JBA factory blemish models and are chroming them before they sell them. SOmeone keeps posting the E-Bay link for them here, and someone else keeps posting that they are junk and don't seal to the block worth a damn. I just want someone to post the truth about these headers under their real name. And then give us like a 1-month update after that.

No doubt, for $125 they are not bad even if they take a little re-work to seal up but no-one ever says if they are any good after a few months of "Testing".

Let us know man, Alex and I had looked into these last summer and the guy was not too professional, but for $125 it could be worth the risk.

Well,
I got mine in today, and they are a little sloppy on some of the welds, but nothing a die grinder and wire welder cant fix. As far as mating to the block, the driver side header will need to be worked a little to seat better, but for $125, they're certainly worth the money.
I suspect that they are buying blemished or rejected headers from JBA or somewhere like that.
I will be eventually cuttin the passenger side header to pieces to make a turbo manifold, and on that side is where they seem to have the most trouble with the welds, but they'll FOR SURE flow better than stock, the driver side header is perfect.
I got more than what I paid for. But we'll see down the road.
All in all, if you're a little capable in the shop, it's not a bad deal.

mjhipp, are you gonna make/buy any type of gasket to help with the seal to the block?

My grinding bit wore down from griding the welds, got the one for #8 cylinder nice and smooth, but that bit was old and it just wore down to a lil stone nub :P

Truck isn't running right now anyways, but when I DO get them on, this thread will resurface with what I think of them!

And Alex, I hope seriously that the welds on the JBA's aren't this bad, for the price they sell them at LOL

In the passenger side collector, the #8 cylinder's tube is half blocked by the messy weld inside the collector. HALF blocked. Inside the tubes themselves, there's little bumps, basically looks like small pieces of metal melted into the sides of the tubes. They're easy to smooth out, but still, if JBA's are of this quality, then scratch JBA off my list of "Companies worth saying the name of" :)

My $99 headers from Autozone I just installed on my Chevy sound GREAT!!!

LOL! They are Flowtech, which is a Holley brand.

My bro-in-law stopped by tonight to see how they sounded and went for a ride with me.

He only wished his RAM sounded near that good!

It actually makes me HARD when I listen to this thing!!!

There's one reason to HOT ROD older cars rather than new ones with emmisions. It's just NOT the same :-)

Oh yeah, on another note. I installed a shift kit into my TH350 tranny so it would snap your neck and bark the tires. He went and bought one for his 2000 RAM 1/2 ton 2WD. The idiot at the auto parts store actually SOLD HIM a shift kit consisting of a few springs and a valve. As I looked at the instructions with pictures, I IMMEDIATELY recognized the TorqueFlight 727/904 valve body. NOT what he has in his 2000 RAM.

So, does anyone know of any mods to that tranny other than just a computer flash? If it's anything like our Chrysler car, there is NO shift kit for those fully electronic tranny's.

I found a place, Fel-Pro's for $19.99 :

Call (888) 6- GoFast, or do a search for Go Fast
parts.

I'm gonna ask a machine shop if they can somehow
make the seats align perfectly, although they
look like they will once the nuts are tightened
and they're against the gaskets.

I had the same problem with the #8 (rear-most)
cyl. on the pass. side being half-closed off
from messy welds and a bad tube bending job,
BUT, a die grinder and a wire welder can easily
remove the excess material and touch up the
welds.
I can't stress how much these are worth the
money if you can work em' a little.-

I'm having severely expensive truck problems, it's gonna be a while before I get mine on, in fact a while before I can even afford some grinder bits to finish cleaning them up.

For gaskets I was just gonna take the idea of a buddy of mine and make some out of sheetmetal. I don't know, can't afford that either.

Payson, it depends on the engine. The hemi's use the 545rfe, which is the same as the 45rfe physically, which means no shift kits etc available yet, nor any performance valve bodies that I know of. Transgo is as sluggish has a drunk 90 year old in getting their kit out. And the 2000 4.7's in the rams I only ASSUME use the 45 or 545 rfe's as well (the auto's anyways)

What kind of truck prob's are you having?

I checked the header seats more closely and held them against each other and they actually will seat properly, they only seemed like they wouldn't.

PCM shorted and fried, replacing entire unit.

Doesn't fall under warranty for reasons I don't feel like typing out, but it's not my fault, basically I got screwed and can't prove it.

PCM's aren't cheap either :(

Did you check the salvage yards? That should give you the best deal...

I found a leak in the driver side header b't the tubes where they combine together, and on a weld on the little pressure tube or whatever that little tube is. The pass. side header has a tiny leak I probably wont mess with, but all of it will be real easy to fix up and they should flow just as well as any other brand out there.

Hope ya get it fixed

save your money. the stock manifolds flow within 2% of any shorty header. the only way to get any noticeable gain in H.P. would be with long tube headers

I already bought em', anyhow, I don't know anybody that makes long tube headers for this truck, and the gain over shorty's is really minimal until you get into the 600 HP airflow range. But there is still a gain. These should do just fine, and definitely better flowing/appearance than stock, and I can say I have headers :)

On the list of things to do, changing the headers is #3!

1. Change shocks+springs (Today!)
2. Install Trac-Lok (ASAP)
3. Install Headers (ASAP)

It'll be a month or 2 before I have the 3" cat, Dynomax, and the cash to have it all installed.

I'll let you know if it helps any, but I'm sure a new free-flowing exhaust will spice it up a little at least!
