Subject: steel or alluminum exhaust?
IP: Logged

Message:
is there actually a huge difference in the quality of a stainless steel exhaust and an aluminized, how different will they look in a year or 2? And would that even matter if i got the mbrp cuda/rollpan exhaust cause you cant even see most of the exhaust anyways.

And Jonas if you read this do you know when another group buy will be put together or how much you could get me one for.

thanks

True you will not see the exhaust. It should come down to how long you will have the truck and where you live i.e. salt in the winter. An aluminized system will rust some and eventualy may rot through. It may last 8 +/- years if salt is a factor. Longer if no salt. Stainless should last for ever.

Stainless is heavier. Aluminum is typically 1/2 the weight for the same size diameter pipe.
Stainless will last forever and can be cleaned with scotch brite pads and polish.

actually there isn't an aluminum exhaust, it's an aluminum coating on mild steel, so the weight is roughly the same, the only reson to get the stainless is if you want to polish it and put mirrors under the truck at shows, or yes, if you live in a high salt area, other than that, save your money. just my thoughts though........

hey man I have an "aluminized" gibson catback, it came with the truck which is a 00' .. now I'm not exactly sure when the previous ownwer put it on but there was about a 2 inch hole in it just behind the cat. Pure deterioration too, it was only 40 bucks to fix but I anticipate more leaks/holes coming up... it just looks ate up.

Personally if you want it mfor more than a couple of years I say to go stainless... the initial investment is quickly made up for when you have to do any repair work to the aluminized...

Just my opinion.. also the trucks come with stainless exhaust from the factory, why replace that with something inferior???
