Well I'm getting ready to change the plugs, and I know I've heard a lot about the 3923's. I would like to go a step cooler than what I have in there now.

1) I know the 5224 is an extended tip plug. What's the benefits of this extended tip?

2) I looked for the 5223 but didn't find it.

3) Any other plugs I should look at?

John

Only the last digit of the Autolite part number dictates heat range. The 3923's are 1 heat range colder than the 5224's because it has a 3 at the end instead of the 4. I would not use a cooler plug unless you are experiencing a detonation problem. The aluminum heads of the 4.7 do a good job of removing heat from the combustion chamber, so they don't have the same problems as the iron head LA block engines. I also would not use the 3923 plugs in the 4.7. The 3923 has a shorter electrode than doesn't extended as far into the combustion chamber. It isn't designed to work with the 4.7. If you still want to run a cooler plug, then buy a set of 5223's.

I thought you could not use platinum plugs in the 4.7 engine - causes problems with the ignition coils?

It doesn't make any difference, all spark plugs are the same.
