I don't post here often, but I do visit this site often on a daily basis. I have learned a lot from reading post on this site so let me say thanks!
Just thought I would share my results with everyone after getting my gears and posi installed. I have a 02 Dakota CC+ 4.7 auto. It used to have the 3.55 open rearend it, but now it has a 4.10 posi. Not sure who posted it earlier but this does seem to be the perfect gear for this truck IMO.
Bought all my parts at a local speed shop:
Motive 4.10 gear=$185
Motive install kit=$95
OEM Posi unit=$200
Red line gear lube(3qts)=$23.85
Local mechanic did all the work=$250 cash
With the 3.55 installed rpm/speed:
65mph @ 2000rpm
80mph @ 2500rpm
With the 4.10 installed:
57mph @ 2000rpm
70mph @ 2500rpm
I hope this is of some help to anyone visiting this site, sorry for it being so lengthy.
My other mods include:
360intake, delete rubber flap, TPS @ .77, relocated IAT, delete clutch fan, delete 3rd cat, autolite 3923, flowmaster 70 series duals, Rino liner, Roll-n-lock bed cover.

How much did your rhino liner cost? I already have 3.92's LSD so 4.10's would be kind of a waste. But good information either way.

Thanks, I often suffer from CRS (Can't remember sh!t), but I believe I spent somewhere between $350-$400. I'll look for my reciept later to give you an exact amount tomorrow. Yeah you probably would not gain a lot going from 3.92s to 4.10s.
FastD:
It's noticable alright! Truck seems to accelerate a lot quicker. I have never dynod or raced down a 1/4 mile track so I don't really have anything to compare it to, sorry. In fact I have not done a WOT take off yet, just letting them kind of break in right now. I got a friend with a Chevy Silvarado, 5.4 I think, talking some smack so there maybe a race brewing in the near future.

Just got my truck back from the mechanic yesterday so I have not been able to check my MPG yet. However, on Friday I have to travel from Pensacola, FL to Tallahassee, FL (200 mi one way) for the weekend so I'll check my highway mileage then. I got a feeling it won't be as good as what I got with the 3.55s though. I'm thinking maybe my city MPG might improve. I'll post my highway MPG results on Monday.
Later...

Hey I used to live in P'cola. I lived there from '95 thru '98. I went to UWF and then PJC (after UWF kicked me out). I think I got a better education at PJC. Not only did I go to class but the professors were more responsive.

Glad to hear from another northwest Floridan, I've Been living here since 1976 when my Army enlistment was up.
Yeah, graduated from PJC and UWF. Your right PJC is the better of the two, but I had to eventually get my Bachelor's Degree from UWF though.

3:55's are considered HiWay gears from what I understand... Your mileage will go down on a lower gear..
I have the non locking 3:55 in my sport 4.7 l 5spd, and all I need is that OEM posi unit FL Dak mentioned to help b/c I'm running 255 50's , these tires are about 5 inches shorter than stock and I think it has done maybe more than a 3:92 would, but the spinning is Still unbearable...
Ecxept to show off....

BTW I'm from Panama City and I love that town. I'll go back some day in the next 5 or 10 yrs.

Don't know an Al Starling. Ft. Myers is about the same size as P'cola. I went to UWF '95-'96. I was a KAO there during that time. Then I went to PJC until '98 when I got my AA degree. Then came to Ft. Myers for my BA in Environmental Science.

mjhipp,
Like I said earlier, ... I got a feeling the highway mileage won't be as good as it was with the 3.55s... because I'll be at a higher rpm at 70mph with the 4.10s. I was getting about 19-20 mpg with the 3.55s before, so if drops to 17-18 mpg with the 4.10s I can live with that.

Got to love living on the Gulf Coast!!!
Or as we call it in Northwest FL "The Redneck Rivera"

I have a 4x4 dak and have been waiting for the front diff gears to be released.
4.10 and 4.56 will be released at the same time.
I have a 5 speed and turn 2000 rmp at 70.
I have been thinking about the 4.56... currently i have the 3.55's and am not happy with them.
curriouse to see your thoughts.
are the 4.10's low enough?
with a manual I don't want to be between gears longer than I am in them.

Filled up with gas in Pensacola heading for Tallahassee, 180.9 mi later I stopped to fill up again at my favorite truck stop just before Tallahassee to check my mpg. I drove with the cruise control set @ 70mph (GPS=71mph)tach was reading 2500rpm A/C off rear window open. My Dakota only used 8.53 gallons. OMG I had to check my math twice, but that comes to 21.2mpg with 4.10 gears! I love it!!

Do you have a true dual setup with 2 Flowmaster 70's? How does it sound? I just ordered 2 FM 70's and 2 Carsound cats for my setup.
Thanks,
James

PalmCoastDak,
Negative on the true dual setup. As you can see by my mods above, I had the 3rd cat removed then had one FM 70 series installed. Single in/dual out. Oh man I love the sound! As you know it is quieter than the other FM series, but that is what I wanted. Has a deep mellow tone to it and does not drone inside the cab. I bought it off of ebay for $51.00. The gentleman I bought it from said he used it for about a month on a Silverado and then opted for a complete catback system. I'm happy with it.
