Blue: w/ speed limiter
Red: w/o speed limiter

Words from the person who posted:
For a bit of background, the stock truck as received has a computer speed limiter at 105 mph, which will not allow a full pull (that's only 4400 RPM @ 105, and the peak power is supposed to come in around 5400 RPM). However, the limiter can be bypassed by pulling the ABS fuse, which will allow a full pull, with the downside being the speedometer not working, and the trans will stop shifting shortly.

Now for my editorial:

The results seem rather low, I was expecting about 30HP more.

And another note from the poster:
"Note it was rather humid that day, and a lot of other guys weren't pleased with their results either."

Something doesn't seem right, my 2001 R/T made 211 hp at the rear wheels in stock form and has 250 at the crank, the Hemi only made 230 at the rear wheels and has 345 at the crank. What gives here?

Way to much parasitic loss in the drivetrain.

My 4.7 would put down about that much now, it is 2wd and manual tranny though.

I haven't dynoed it, I'm going by people with the same year/miles/motor/tranny/mods who have.

I'm sure that full size IS a nice ride though!

Also, this truck is a 4x4 which is more parasitic loss than a 4x2. It works out to about 28.5% parasitic loss which is typical in a 4x4/auto.

asp pulleys, aluminum fly wheel, aps tranny upgrades, shift kit, carbon fiber or aluminum driveshaft and you may reduce the drag some. If any of those things are even available yet. Some obviously would have to be custom.

I'm pretty sure he was in 4th as he had mentioned that the wheel speed was something like 142+MPH on the second test (the first nailed the limiter, as you can see) and it was mentioned that the sidewalls were visibly distorted at that speed.

Why did it make more hp/tq with the limiter bypassed, at the lower speeds and r's also?

I'd figure it would just climb alittle more, it's still at the peak anyway.

From what I can tell pulling the abs fuse does more then just disable the speed limiter. So if you are comparing the first run to your 5.9 or 4.7 remember that it cuts offf 1000 rpm before peak HP is made, what does your 5.9 make 1000 rpm before peak? Pulling the ABS fuse I think also fools the torque limiter built into the electronic throttle control. Another thing about that graph is that it looks like the knock sensors are kicking in there at the end. I think it needs some 91 octain. The test is run in 3rd gear, on a 4x4 Ram wich has 33" tall tires from the factory and 3.92 gears the speed limiter is hit at about 4200 rpm in 3rd gear which is the 1:1 gear in the 545RFE. Like the poster said this was on a poor day, I've seen good Hemi dynos do 265 hp and 315 ft-lbs even on a 4x4 automatic. Still this motor is in desperate need for somebody to crack this electronic throttle thing and allow the thing to open when and how much your foot tells it to. Mopar has gone so far to say that if you add aftermarket parts the computer will eventually back the power back out to stock levels again, although a couple of cold air intake companies have dynos that show a good 10 hp gain on a Hemi. Who knows, it's just all to new right now, but mopar has said that they will be offering a big aftermarket for this Hemi. Inculding a supercharger kit that adds dished pistons, PC programmible PCM, and a cat back as part of an overall warrantied kit.

Hi, I am the owner of the truck in question.

I too expected about 20 more hp with the limiter bypassed, although I thought the torque numbers were about right. There does seem to definitely be some issue with the computer, even bypassing the limiter. I had the recommended 89 octane in there, but it's possible at those speeds that 92/93 might have been better.

It's also been mentioned by one of the aftermarket companies (APS Precision) that the torque converter Dodge put on that tranny has a lot of extra slop in it (probably to help with that 7/70 powertrain warranty), so tightening that up ought to help and will definitely be something I consider adding.

Also, one other thing was that on the run without the limiter, the speedometer was also disabled as a result and therefore I'm not entirely sure when I pinned it, it may have been before 70 mph.

Pulling your ABS fuse to go faster is the dumbest thing you could ever do, specially because it messes up your transmission. My friends and I are laughing at the thought of messing with your brakes to go faster. “Lets f**k up our brakes so we can go faster” Sounds like a dodge owner thing to do. Oh, and by the way I test drove a 06 Dodge Night Runner with a Hemi and it sucked *ss.

Nice way to dredge up a three year old post to add some irrelevant comments!

If you paid attention to the context of the thread the ABS fuse pull was only for the confines of the dyno run(s). And besides, if the owner wants to risk his vehicle what is that to you?

"Sounds like a dodge owner thing to do." It looks like you need to head back to the import tuner forums where you belong...
