I have a 4cyl Reg Cab Dak, with a 5spd. I already know that it wont become a speed demon. All I would like to know is what I can do to make the truck weigh less. It's not like there is a jet turbine under the hood so I figured I could make it lighter instead. I would rather keep my doors on though. It gets cold here at night time. J/K

Also... If anyone has any experience with the 98 4cyl... What else is there to do to get more power out of this modified lawnmower engine? I already have flowmaster exaust, cold air intake, 8mm wires, Bosh+4 plugs, and blue paint trim interior. I the the blue paint adds at least 50HP. Not to mention, that I'm looking in the market for a NOS Sticker. I'll figure that that is good for another 100 Horses.

fiber glass hood, lite alloy wheels,if you have bucket seats, either switch to a lite racing seat, like a jaz from summit,or replace the buckets with a bench seat,

NO offense,

be happy with your 4cylinder, and leave it at that. You've done enough already.

I'll tell you... I would gladly prefer another 4 cylinders. But to tell you the truth, I don't have the money. I am already stuck with my truck until I pay it off, and I cant afford to be spending for 15 miles to the gallon for an all american V8 beef burner. And the insurence. I am almost 18, and I am paying $229.96 per month for full coverage insurence, and a $1000.00 deductable.Thank for the help so far, but I would still like to know what else I can do for me 4cyl. I plan on getting some graduation moola pretty soon and would like to put it into my truck. Anyone with any experience please...PLEASE let me know what else I can do. Turbo, Nitrous, Cam swap? Anything. Even if somone could recomend a ggod site that could tell me about doing an engine swap, for the future.

You have a good start, exhaust improvement will almost always yeild more power and mpg. Rear gearing will usually give you the most bang for the buck. I haven't read it yet, but Mopar Performance includes your engine in the Magnum engine manual. The engine is also used in Jeeps, you may want to look in some of there web sights. Any thing you can do to improve traction, will allow you to start more aggesively with out tire spin. Safely practice your starts and shifts, a good driver in an S-10 can beat a poor driver in a similer Dak (both are very rare).

Forget all that you know about increasing HP
and focus on the other end of the spectrum.
The power to weight ratio of a vehicle is often
changed by looking for power gains, but I say
no more my friend! Grab your socket set and
lets look at the wonderful world of weight
reduction...
First thing you have is a definate advantage
with engine weight, shyt with 2 less cylinders
and a smaller block you save about 300 lbs. I
hope you have a reg cab, cuz that saves
another 300! Way to go look at that ratio
increase!
Next youll want to remove that passenger
seat, no free rides here! Time: 10min
Remove the spare tyre from under the
bed...hey another 50lbs or so Time: 3 min
Always run with a 1/4 tank of gas....I cannot
stress this enough. especially with your
automatic transmission, cracking the rear
loose isnt likely so keep it low and you will be
rewarded with speed!
I hope you are getting some ideas...keep
reading!
Next look for any loose objects in your
cab....Jacks, amps, owners manuals, spare
change, porno mags, these will all slow you
down so toss it!
Remove the following items in order of
importance to you, you dont have to remove
them all, but if you want speed...go for it!
pedal covers, door trim, door glass, interior
carpeting, shifter knob, center console, radio,
rear view mirror, are you getting the picture?
WARNING!:Do not remove the rear glass as
this will cause a blow by effect making it
extremely difficult to drive without some kind of
eye protection.
Finally it would be wise to step on the
treadmill a few days a week, hey the driver
may have to be weight reduced as well!
So lets consider how much weight we have
reduced...lots and you know what the best part
of all this is??? It didnt cost you a dime! Not a
measly penny! That is the best upgrade i can
think of! shyt I just shaved a tenth off your 1/4
mile time....
I hope these tips will help you to keep up to
the v8 boys when it comes time to start the
showdown...
As for me, ill keep enjoying with my truck fully
intact , a nice girl in my pass seat while I cruse
the roads with a bad ol V8...But there will
come a time when i decide to catch some
5.9s and follow my own advice.
Well kiddies, I hope you enjoyed this brief
overview of the world of weight reduction, next
week we will look at carbon fibre dash
needles, low weight oils and car wax that
actually increases gas mileage.

Its called the human RACE for somethin!

Hey. I honestly think that the bes idea was the carbon fiber needles. (Original!) I had already thought about loosing my bed for a while too. I need a new one anyways. Wonder how much that ways. As I said before though, I do have a 5speed manual transmision with a reg cab. I can already keep up with my friends 6cyl S-10. I can burn him at top speed though. He has a governor at 90mph. I don't think I have on at all. Not up to 125mph (NOT KPH) anyways. (Havn't gone any faster. Don't trust my tires right now.) thanks for the help though. I guess my next question would be where to get the carbon fiber guage needles, and valve stem covers.

Increase your tire pressure to 90psi for less rolling resistance. Oh and you should've gone for red paint; everyone knows it's faster than blue.

If you don't like the appearance of a chassis cab, grab a drill with a 2" hole saw and "swiss cheese" the inside bed walls and floor. Save a little material around the mounting points. It might wiggle on bumpy roads if you over-do it, however.
