Goes to show that the R/T just aint what is cut out to be. They do look good. It must really suck to be driving something that draws as much attention as an R/T does and it be so slow. What was Dodge thinking? I guess that's why they quit making it. What's the point? You can buy a cheaper, more reliable 4.7LSLT and it will outrun the R/T and get better gas mileage. It's a NO-Brainer.

Well I don't think it is so cut and dry.

I drive a 2000 4.7L 5spd CC so you know.

The R/T Looks better as stated above.
The R/T Has way more performance hardware available.
The R/T has the snob factor(as almost knowone knows or would think that it is slower than the 4.7L)
The R/T has got the bigger engine i.e the Tim Taylor factor comes in.

Now price wise at the time is what did it for me.
My 2000 4.7L Sport+ CC with tire handling package. OH console, Buckets, bedliner came to $22000 Canadian so that would be about $17000 American.
The R/T are around $32000 CND I Beleive or 24000 American.
If the R/T Was Factory Supercharged the extra cash would definatlry be worth it on the day I was making the purchase.

The Fact is that the R/T Should not be anywhere near the same speed of the non R/T. I still like the R/T and always swoon when I see one but if dodge ever produces another they had better do it properly. The difference between the R/T and the next quickest should be like the difference between the Lightning and a regular F-150. Or The hemi ram and the SRT-10.

With the SRT-10 in production I don't know if we will ever see a High performance Dakota as the too would be in competition for the same market.

In all honesty the Dakota would have served as a far better platform for a performance truck from Dodge than the Ram.

It would be lighter, and the people who buy the lightning/SRT-10 don't need a full size.

The R/T definately has the Tim Taylor factor. Most of the Mopar loyalist have the Tim Taylor mentality also. As far as looks are concerned, I think they could have done a lot more to the looks of the R/T to make it look better. It looks CHEAP! First of all, no auto manufacture leaves the mirrors unpainted anymore. Even the cheap rices like GEO's, KIA's, and Hundays (spelling?) have painted mirrors. What's the deal with the 2 black plastic strips just behind the doors on the roof of the CC's (cheap)? Then you have the door handels that are black plastic (cheap). A vehicle that cost well over $20,000.00 should look like a vehicle that cost over $20,000.00. Whose going to pay that kind of money for something with painted bumbers and a tow-truck engine under the hood?

I actually considered an R/T. After careful inspection and a test drive I just couldn't bring myself to pay $25,000.00 for a CC R/T. The R/T I test drove was a nice truck, but the drivers side door was bad out of adjustment. The body lines didn't match up at all from the fender to the door. There was a speed bump in the parking lot of the dealership. I had the wheels turned all the way to the right to get out of the parking space and when I hit the curb something popped real loud under the front end. I immediately stopped the truck and looked at the salesman. He said "what". I said "I think something broke, didn't you hear that loud pop?" He said "OH, that's normal." I drove out of the parking lot and nailed it and when I did it stumbled. It wouldn't even turn the tires over. The salesman said "Oh, they run a lot better after about 1000 miles". Go Figure. No wonder Dodge can't make any money. First impression is the #1 factor in buying an automobile.

the popping noise is normal it happens on all r/t's when u go over a big bump while the wheels are turned. also the 5.9 does run way better after 1000 miles. when i first got mine id floor it and the tires would barely chirp but a month later the tires would easily spin at will.
