Subject: spark plug questions

Message:
I was bored today, so i decided to check my plugs. They appear to be normal, but I noticed that the gap had opened up around 5/1000ths. Is this normal? Also, I noticed one plug was slightly cracked toward the tip. If I didn't do this accidentally, is there anything else that might cause cracking? One more question. What do most of you gap your 3923's at?
Thanks in advance.

Most copper plugs will open gap at approx. .001"
per 1000 miles driven. therefore the need to check them every 10000 miles or so. That is also the reason manufacturers that say 100000 miles between tuneups use Platinum plugs. I myself used a set of Bosch platinum plugs in my "93" Lebaron and the gap DID NOT increase .001 in 60000 miles and I checked them every 10000 miles. I am now using Bosch platinum +4 in both my "93" Lebaron and my "00" DAK. After 20000 miles on the DAK Istill maintain a steady idle and gas mileage
of 20 to 23 on the highway. So for me the Platinum's have payed for themselves.

Hey DAK2, what are you gapping your Bosch's at? Surprised at only one response to my question. Usually a gang will appear when there's spark plug talk! Thanks.

Actually all bosch platinums are preset at factory
even the first set of platinum's I put in my "93" Lebaron and they were only single electrode type.
Oh I forgot my "89" Shadow 2.5L also had platinum's
in it 85000 miles before change and gap was still good
