I just traded in my 2001 QC 4x4, for a used slightly modified 2002 R/T. The R/T is incredibly awesome compaired to my other truck. but the thing i was wondering is that the transmission is shifting under hard throttle at about 4,700 RPM, my old truck was around 5,300 RPM. i was just wondering what gives??? This R/T is making incredible power up to the 4,700 then its in the next gear. I think that the truck has a shift kit in it because it shifts harder than any other R/T that i have driven, but like i said i bought it used, and it was already modified some. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone know a way that i could get it to shift at a higher RPM please let me know. Thanks

Can't recall what mine was when it was stock but if you shift manually, you can pick the rpm you want. You should probly try that anyway to see when your powerband is peaking...use your butt dyno or take her to a real dyno. Just my .02 worth.

The stock shift points are 4700rpms to 4900rpms, most shift right at 4800rpms. The stock rev limiter is 5250 so you can manualy shift around 5000rpms but if you try to shift much higher you will bounce off the limiter. You can adjust the TV cable and it may get you another 100rpms.

Thank you too for helping me out here, i tried the manual shifting around 5000 rpm, and this motor was still making a TON of power, i couldnt feel any drop at all power wise, and when i would upshift i was spinning the rears in 2nd getting my truck a little sideways. I LOVE THIS TRUCK! How exactly do you adjust the tv cable? or does anyone else know how to get more rpms out of the engine becides the tv cable or is that about it? and if so what all will i need to do. Its all worth trying to me. Thanks for the info.

Slightly modified from what i can tell. It has a K&N drop in filter in the stock intake, Headers back exaust with precats and after cat 3" tubing to a flowmaster muffler, dumped before the rear axle. Feels like it has a shift kit with how hard it shifts and it has to have a thermostat with how cold the engine is running. stock R/T Suspension and still running the stock manuel fan. As far as i can tell that is all that has been done to the truck as i have bought it used a week ago with these mods already done to it, the engine also revs up faster than a stock 2003 R/T and a modified 99' R/T that was in the used car lot that i bought it from (the salesmen were asking my openions on the trucks) but im always looking for cheap easy ways to make more hp, planning on the "S-bold mod soon, and taking off the plastic cover soon by the radiator on the passenger side and removing the elbow going into the finder well (there cheap, easy and best of all they work)

Check out the Hypertech web site. They now make programmers for Dakotas. You cant change the shift point but you can increase the rev limiter by 100 or so.

Yeah i was looking into that hypertech, but i just dont have the money for it now, that and i have to save some cash for tires, but im not really too intrested in raising the revlimiter up any higher than it is, chrysler does know what is best for their engines, im just mainly looking for a little higher shift. that and im also used to the 4.7 that i had in my 01' QC dak that revved up a littler higher and supposedly had a 6100 rev limiter. i guess i just figured that the 5.9 would be about the same in that area.

I was just wondering about that TV Cable adjustment, i was reading else where and they said that by adjusting it not only will it raise the shift points but it will make the transmission shift fermer. Well the transmission on this truck already shifts very hard. i was just wondering if adjusting the TV cable would be a good way to go or do yall think that its going to blow out my transmission by making it shift too hard?

Also i did some very unnoficial 1/4 mile testing today and it looks like this is a mid 13 second truck. and unfortunately the only thing i had to time it was my digital camra that my friend was filming me with. e-mail me for the video and give me your openion on this run.
