Anyone know what code 34 is for a '96 3.9? By the way I'll never buy a Dodge again. It's been nothing but a money pit. 55,000 miles had to replace crank, timing chain, oil pump. Also had to have tranny rebuilt at 55,000. I've had the front end rebuilt because it wouldn't disengauge from 4WD properly. I go thru an oil pressure control switch every year. Now at 82,000 miles I've replaced every emmission part possible and the @#$% check engine light still is on. I could have bought a Ford and a Chevy for as much as I've spent fixing my Dakota. By the way I don't do anything but drive it to work so don't think I'm hard on it.

That sucks. I beat the crap out of my genII V8 daily and have had 0 problems on 80k miles. Well, the cup holder won't stay closed, so 1 problem.
34 = Speed control solenoid(s) circuit is open or shorted

That's a strange year. The engine comtrols were new but it had the Gen II style. Kind of a test bed year for the gen III.

Gotta agree with Yep, I had a '93 3.9L 4x4 and I beat the ever loving crap out of it for 151,000 miles, only things I ever had to replace (other than fluids and filters) was the radiator at about 110K and the clutch at 90K. Truck was still going strong when I got the R/T, wish I could have kept her. Drive 'em like ya stole 'em, that's what I say :)

Didn't know I was crying. Just simply saying what happened with my truck. I don't think anyone could say I dont take care of it because I do. I know that maybe I just got a lemon but it was my first Dodge and it has just drained me. Is it really necessary to call me a jerk off?

My Dodge R/T is HARD. I will spank ANY truck in the 19000 price range. And with a motor thats 4 decades old. Any car or truck cna be a lemon. Thats why they have "Lemon Laws"

EMike, You came onto a Dodge Dakota forum for Dodge Dakota enthusiasts, and put a topis that says "Dodge=Junk", then complain about all the problems you have had and state that "I could have bought a Ford and a Chevy for as much as I've spent fixing my Dakota" and expect anybody to give you any serious help. And then you don't understand it when people tell you stuff like you should just sell your truck. Maybe you should have made a little better attempt to sound like you actually wanted help rather than making a post whining about all the problems you have had. You got your one question answered which you could have done using a simple online search for check engine codes. Just leave and sell your truck if you really don't like it that much. Go buy the Chevy or Ford that you coudl have paid for already, and stop whining about your problems.

I would be pi$%ed too if I had that type of trouble with my truck. This board is for anyone who has a dakota /good or bad/. The guy is just venting, no reason to ream him. They are right though you should have had the emissions parts replaced under fed warranty. Or looked into your local lemon laws. But, you live and learn.
By the way, every car & truck can have its problems.

Good lord kid don't buy a Ford! I agree the only good truck out there is a Chevy! You see when the good Lord comes back to get his people he will be driving a 350 Chevy C/K , quite possibly the best truck produced. If you trust anything on earth make it a Chevy! :)

Hey who said that the Dakota is a perfect truck? But don't be fooled Emike. Both the Ford Ranger and Chevy S-10 (GMC senoma) has there share of major problems also. Most people who have owned both Ford and Chevy small trucks do in fact switch to Dodge.
True the Dakota does have its problems; Brakes, Transmission, Anti roll bar.
But Hey, I got a '94 and with 160K miles. Its still is tough as nails. Just the tranny is a bit f-cked up but I'm finaly going to get that fixed. Also the brakes needs to be adjusted. But other than that. There's no way I would trade it in for a Ranger or S-10!! F-150 supercrew? Maybe.
