Hi guys, I'm going to start porting my intake manifold for the old 95 dak 318 this weekend. If I cut out the EGR equipment do I still have a chance in He|| at passing emissions here in WI?

I have a KRC 206 cam so my powerband is a bit higher than stock. How much shorter should I cut the runners?

If I can take out the EGR, how much shorter should I cut the plenum divider? and what are the changes in powerband location for each of these?

Thanks Geoff Fahl

I'll suggest one inch to two inches, I also have the KRC206/262HR-12. Reading on Comp Cams website they say operational range is between 800-5000. They say one step above it which is the KRC210 requires and PCM upgrade and has less torque. The KRC206 doesn't make for a good combo with the M1 2bbl, where it's sweet spot is around 5500+. This way I fully use the low to mid range characteristics of the stock dual plain design while shorten the runners enough to hit max cam horsepower. I'll still need a PCM to take full advantage of torque management and make it shift past my max power so it's closer to the peak after shifting. From what I've heard most PCM upgrades only automatically shift at 5200-5300 while rasing the RPM limiter to 5500-5600. I would rather have the tranny shift for me on a automatic to get a good bark each shift.

I wouldn't suggest running anything lower than a KRC210 with the M1 2bbl. So that means you'll need a higher stall converter, gears, pcm, headers, cat back, heads, tb, air intake for starters. Sure that makes for a better 1/4 truck, but forget emission, gas, savings account :), warranty, maybe daily driver.

so you're saying I should leave the plenum divider in tact, but cut back the runners about an inch and a half or so? I also plan on polishing what I can on the runners.

Any idea where the cheapest place would be to buy a MP PCM for my truck?

Do you guys think I have a chance at passing emissions the way my truck is now?

95 dak v6 --> 318 .030 over, KB hyperutectic 9.5:1 pistons, MSD ignition, wires, cap rotor and 3923's, high flow cat, pacesetter cat back, home ported TB and exhaust manifolds, 1.6:1 roller rockers. electric fans w/o clutch, a-518 trans slightly modified. krc 206 cam

I don't have much knowledge about the divider due to have a 2001MY intake with no EGR. But the runner length would make more of a performance gain than cutting the divider would. I not sure how much increase in emissions would be caused by removing the EGR system, but the only tips in passing the sniffer test would be, run a hotter plugs, T-stat and make sure your engine is fully warmed up when testing. The idle also will effect emissions output. There is a range where it can run before failing the test, 500-1200rpms for idle(guess) the higher the better when testing. Man I'm glad I don't have to test any longer! From Houston Texas to Wichita KS.
