Hey peeps, I just got done organizing a list of mods, and I'm wondering (on the advice of my friend) if nitrous would hurt the 5.9. Since it's an auto, it might just freak out on the burst of power...I dunno, I'm new to the Nos thing, but my friend had nitrous on a 3000 GT auto and it threw a rod, and just basically got F***ed up....so any advice would be appreciated.

Well, nitrous is a fun addition to any vehicle that has been properly prepped for it. Your truck could probably safely stand up to a 50-75 hp shot without too many problems. You should run premium gas when you plan on hitting the button to help prevent detonation. Downside being the trans, even though its a strong trans the R/T pushes its limits already. Hitting the bottle will only shorten its not-so-long lifespan. So its a tradeoff. Too little power and you won't be satisfied. Too much and you'll be picking up your engine and trans with a broom and dustpan. Be safe, keep it rubber side down.

Matt,

Check out the DakotaRT group from Yahoogroups.com. There are many R/T folks running the 100-150HP shot from NX (Nitrous Express). I personally also ran the NX kit with a 100HP shot at the track (75HP on the street) with the basic recommended modifications.

(1) 180 T'Stat
(2) 3923 or 3922 Autolite Spark Plugs (gapped .005" smaller)
(3) MSD Digital-6+ (Timing retard set at 2-4 degrees retard according to the HP shot)
(4) Super Unleaded
