well guys, i might have restored some of my faith in my pig of a R/T...comming home other day, i was on 4-lane(65 MPH) and this pimped out late model Mazda comes beside me....i didnt think anything about it but then i realized the little bugger is pipping me...thinking at the time i was going to get smoked, i just kept looking ahead, hoping he'd lose interest..no dice...so what the heck, took of cruise and gave her the beans...well, folks, i started pulling from him and never looked back...i gave all the R/T would give, buried the speedo and the RX-7 was at least 3 cars behind me...WTF...i slowed down and he got right on my ass...he was pissed and i was shocked...granted it takes no skill in driving just floor it...got to my next exit and he flew by me....with a empty expression on his face...i know nothing about these cars but boy...top end aint their cup of tea...all is done to my truck is pcm and 180...maybe this limo isnt too bad after all....lol

What year RX-7 would you say it was, because if it was 1993 up and Twin Turbo you would not have stood a chance. Those things are faster than supras. I am not making fun of the R/T because I own one but the truth is if that was a Twin Turbo you should have been a spec in his rear view mirror..

Yeah, one of my buddies at work had a silver one, I think it was a '93. He'd blown the motor twice so he had it rebuilt to the point that the bottom end was bullet proof, he'd pulled out the little sequential twin turbos and put in a single intercooled, think it was a Garrett T-04... not sure though, the thing was huge... anyways, long story short, 11.8 in the 1/4 in full street trim (street tires too)... very nice looking little car, it had the veilside kit on it. He had a 3" straight pipe and the thing was loud as hell... sounded like a lawnmower on steroids! He sold it though, now he's got a 13 second Intgra Type-R...

There aren't any rear engine RX-7s... and all of the new ones since 93 are turbo 1.3L rotaries... was it really rounded or kinda boxy?

Especially since he said it's bigger than the newer ones, and the newEST model RX7 (the 90-94 or whatever years) was about the same size as the previous generation was, and there is no "newer" rx7 than that

Not all RX-7 come with turbos. My buddy recently purchased a RX-7 (non-turbo) and it feels like a mid-high 16 second car, nothing too impressive. My buddy thinks his Durango (4.7 w/ a few mods) is quicker, but it can't take the corners like the RX-7.

Good kill though!

I must say, the third gen's gotta be one of the sexiest looking cars ever. I'd take a TT third gen over a porsche or BMW any day. Much more rare, so sleek and DIFFERENT.

Buddy of mine has a 2nd gen, non turbo, he runs mid-low 15, not sure what all he's done, I know he's ported the heads, intake, exhaust, but don't remember what if anything else. He knows the engine pretty well tho, somehow squeezed 170k out of his last engine (which he just removed after it finally keeled over on him) which is a LOT for a rotary.

Regardless, good kill :) First time I pulled HARD on a N/A 300zx, I knew it wasn't big, but I still felt cool putting that lil punk in his place :)

RX7s are nice and can be fast if you have the $$$. Personally its a no-win battle. Any RX7 forum will tell you that even stock they are not reliable.
So you beat an econobox in your Dak...kudos to you...lol

Hah, I didn't even think about that! I'm so used to thinking with pistons that I forgot what car he had when he said that :\

He really just listed his mods to me as "port and polish" and then whatever the rest were, I just assumed heads..wonder what he meant..

The RX you ran was more than Likely bone stock, and in bad need of a good tune up. And 170k on a rotary engine is about the breaking point if it has had the dog crap run out of it for the entire life of the engine. Otherwise 250k is not uncommon. Don't understand what you mean by the BOTTOM END Darcy, Rotaries don't have a BOTTOM END, and for sure Don't have heads.it is no problem to get an NA 13b 1.3L in full trim down into the 13's, have seen them in the 12's NA full trim.

I own a Fine Dakota, but would only feel sympathy for an RX7 that couldn't take me from a 65 mph roll on.

RX7 nut, yeah I know, I know about rotaries, I had seriously considered buying one a few years back. By bottom end I meant, and should have said, internals ie. Rotor, eccentric shaft, etc... and by head porting he most likely just meant intake and exhaust porting... streetports, brdigeports, j-ports... that kinda stuff. Sorry for the confusion man!
