Vortec's website claims to add 89HP and 65lbs to the 5.2. I'm getting ready to buy one myself and trying to get a group buy together. If your interested, let us know at the Group Buys forum.

Group buy would be great. The cheapest i could find for the 97+ 5.2L are $3100. Thats for the S-trim kit with satin finish. i'm planing on running around 11psi. I plan on buying one next month. Let me know what kind of deal you guys come up with. Its either the Vortech or Procharger kit.

Unless Alternative Automotive found some way to buy them at a price less than what Summit, Jegs, and some of the other big-hitters can...those are the wrong prices on their website. (Contacted three people who deal with Vortech on a regular basis and those prices are out of date according to the dealer price sheet.)

I was told that the Procharger intercooled kit adds 120-130 rwhp. Vortech adds 89 rwhp. That a big difference. So are the Procharger numbers Bogus or what????? Anybody heard of these kind of numbers? I seen the R/T on Trucks with the Powerdyne, cat back, Headers and new injectors only added 60 rwhp. So if your going by the numbers i'd say Prochrger has them beat.

I've heard similar and we actually installed an ATI ProCharger kit on a '99 R/T just a few months ago "Project ATI Supercharged R/T"...it feels almost the same as a Powerdyne @ 9# Boost (also installed one of them on another local '99 R/T as well).

The numbers are up more towards the 70-75RWHP range though.

I've installed Paxton, Powerdyne, Vortech, and ATI...out of all of them, the Powerdyne and Vortech were the easiest, the Paxton the most reliable (from the past experiences...seems to have slipped now), and the ATI was the worst on installation, instructions, and tuning. All of them run within a small percentage of each other.

How does Kenne Bell stand in the middle of all of this. From what i understand they seem to be the 'best' out there, but then again, i've only been looking for a supercharger for a 4.7...

I wonder what the odds are of finding a dealer who would include a S/C as part of the deal(installed by a good shop) on a brand new truck, and warranty stay the same.It sounds to me like you could run a S/C in a every day driver??You would not have to change exhaust or intake??

For the 4.7L, KB would be your #1 choice. They use a MAP/MAF system which works very well on the 4.7L's.

I know of two who alredy have the KB S/C on they're 4.7L and are (literally) tearing up the competition. :)

I was looking into a KB Supercharger too. I talked to Jim Bell, awsome guy. You can tell he know is stuff. What is the best price any one has seen for the 4.7L kit? I have been told $3950. How much should the install cost? I Live in Salt Lake City Utah and the closet install place is in colorado asking about $700. Also until I can get my hands on the butt load of cash its going to take, what are other mods that will help my SC (cat-back, etc)? Thanks!

He said there are a few steps that seem out of order, but nothing to major. I want one so bad......... i feel like a little kid again. :)

Bernd, Out of all the brands you have delt with, which one will give me the most performance. Price doesn't matter. I'm looking to get the biggest gains I can get. I'm talking rwhp here. I"ve looked at all the brands, Vortech, Powerdyne, Paxton, Kenne Bell, and ATI Procharger. The only reason I like the Procharger is that its intercooled. I seen Jack Yates added a custon aftercooler from the Ls1 on his vortech S-Trim. Its a pretty Sweet set-up. It ran him around 4600 for the total kit. Versus ATI kit for 4200. There a big defference between prices. He's only running 10 psi with the cooler. He said it wasn't really a huge difference. So, should be go intercooled or not???

I haven't installed/tested/run a Kenne Bell so I can't say anything about them except for what I hear from actual users.

As for the ATI/Powerdyne/Vortech/Paxton S/C's (all which I have installed and "played around with"), they all come very close to one another.

The intercooler is a nice addition to any supercharger but not always required. (Mustang crowd actually remove them and have shown no losses.) On the Dakota's, if your truck is lowered...the ATI Intercooler is dangerously close to the ground and can be torn off if you're not careful with the potholes and speedbumps (get's expensive to replace). Powerdyne is the quietest of the bunch and I personally haven't had any mechanical problems with mine at all. (Pulley issue but that wasn't related to the blower.) The Vortech SQ Series (Quiet) and the Paxtons both perform very well but there has been some complaints about the Paxton S/C's recently due to QA.

Every blower will have their "black eyes" (bad blowers) and those issues are always brought up before anyone posts the good experiences.

Personally, between the ATI, Vortech, and Powerdyne...that would be my choice now. Your budjet is the deciding factor though.

Bernd: if money was not a factor, would you use the Kenne Bell SC for the 4.7L? I know its more $$ but it will produce full boost at 2000 RPM, the others (being centrifugal (sp?)) will only put out 1-2 LBS at the same speed.

Worked just fine in the 28-30 degree winter for me. :)

Just run lighter oil in the winter (5w30) and switch to 10w30 - 15w50 for the summer months. No performance advantage for the blower...but it does help the engine.
