Nitrous systems are much safer than they were years ago. If you are careful, and set it up right, you should have no problems. If you set it up wrong, don't know what you're doing, spray too much, get too much detonation, etc.... It CAN cause serious damage.

Check out -

http://www.nitrousexpress.com/welcome.htm

I'm planning to order the "Stage One" kit for a Dodge. Along with the "GenX-2" upgrade for the bottle warmer and purge system.

A friend of mine is running this system, along with an MSD ignition to prevent over revving and has been for several months now, with no damage.

You're making the right move by doing some research before just jumping in and buying th wrong stuff!

P.S. - Ignore the prices listed on that web site. You can get the system for much less.

Had NX for some time now.
Follow their instructions, stay under 100 shot without timing retard and run octane booster and you will have no problems.

Exactly FazDak. If you stay with a low shot, maybe even up to the 100 shot with premium gas (93) and maybe a little octane booster, you should be fine on a stock ignition.

If you wanna go any higher, you will need an aftermarket ignition for two reasons -

One- To pull timing/retard the timing some to prevent detonation (known as pinging). Detonation will blow a head gasket quick!!

Two- Rev limiter. The stock PCM limits the engine revs by cutting the fuel, not the spark. Cutting fuel while spraying nitrous is a VERY BAD thing. The air/fuel ratio will lean out almost instantly, meaning you will be spraying air and nitrous only. BAD! A unit like the MSD limits the revs by killing the spark. No spark, no EXPLOSION!Set the MSD rev limit just below the PCM rev limit and it'll kick in and pull spark before the PCM pulls fuel.

Be careful and Enjoy!!

So you are pretty sure you dont have to pull timing with a 100 shot ? I was looking into an MSD ignition. Not sure wether to get Digital6+ or the 6AL. Something with a rev limiter.
I dont think I`d wanna go over a 100 shot on the weak ass cast pistons.

thx

My bud who I've got all my tips/experience from, uses the Digital 6 Plus. It has timing retard AND a rev limiter. THe 6AL only has the rev limiter. I'm going with the Digital 6 Plus for that reason.

He has been spraying 100 and 125 shot for quiet a while. Recently he got brave and has used a 150 shot several times, pulling 2* timing (I think) and so far .... No problems.

Thx , Ginther. That Dig6+ box looks a little bigger that the 6AL. I wonder if theres enough room to mount it in the fenderwell.

I wonder if the wiring is the same on the digital as is on the 6a, 6al etc...

I have a 4.7 with nitrous express kit on it. I am spraying 100shot with 2degree colder ngk plug non platnum. I have had no problems with it. I have been running it for about 8 months. It gave me about 1second faster in the 1/8th mile. Of the gas it runs 9.30s, on the gas it runs 8.40s. Other mods include cold air intake, flowmaster, and a larger tb. Spray with no worries. I have also shot 150hp a few times.

Kenny, alot of em on here will say not to run N2O with that many miles but I will differ.
I have had many Mopars with high miles that took mods and ran like stink (good that is).
One thing alot of people dont know is that a race engine is set up with loose tolerences (like a worn out engine, kinda) so you have less friction hence more horse power.
Not to say that 213k inst a hellofa lota miles but I have had em with as much.

I will say go with a wet system and not dry and I would recomend no higher than 50 shot and even run it a little rich.

Good luck
