I don't really think it is, I've had my 2000 Regular cab for a little over a year now (3.9L, Airaid Intake, 5-speed, 3.55) and have been happy with it. I average 18-22mpg, depending on how I drive it, which sadly is about what my old 1996 Cavalier 2-door got (Eh? That engine blew. No, litterally, it blew oil all over). Is it the fastest thing on 4 wheels? No... but it does respectfully. I've taken on S10s with 305s in them and won (sometimes barely), and even beat a Camaro (V6, had to be).

I can load a _lot_ of crap in the back, and it doesn't complain much. Second gear starts are the norm, first gear is pretty useless anyway. It gets up to merging speed (80mph here) before the end of most onramps, and can hold it's own in traffic.

Plus, I just really like the way it looks (Regular cab, sport, alloy wheels, forest green, black tonneu, bug-shield, Dodge Mudflaps). I mean, it's just _mean_ looking gaining on someone.

Now, I'm going off to college in January (Anyone here goin to FullSail in Winter Park, Flordia?), and by the time I graduate there, I'll owe two years on it. I _could_ trade it in then for a V8, but it's going to depend on how much I make and what it's worth. It does seem to be holding it's value pretty good, it's actually worth (Bluebook) $500 more than I owe on it.

Plans? I'll probally keep it until I pay it off, doing minor mods here and there. Then trade it in on a brand-new Club Cab 5-speed 4.7 or so. The dual overhead cam intregues me...

It's too bad some of you guys didn't get the truck
you wanted. I sure did, and with the few little
goodies I've been able to get for it, it is really
starting to kick some assss. (165 km/hr on the
highway last week, how much faster did you want to
go?) Plus, I get okay mileage.

97 3.9 V6 Sport Club Cab. Black. Auto 3.55
Quick D Intake, JBA Stainless headers
Autolite 3923s with Borg Warner Wires
Awaiting Installation: Borla catback, V8 R/T TB

I am the owner of a 2001 dodge ram 3.9L 5 speed.
I have done research on the V6 mods and have found a website that for a reasonable fee (about $1100.00 dollars )puts together kits for the 3.9L V6 the kits puts together parts that are designed to work together and have been dyno proven according to there ads. These kits come in three stages 1, 2, and 3. The stage three kit I looked at included an intake, pair of headers, cat back exhaust system, and the Jet stage two chip for Dodges popular 3.9L this kit is $1100.76 cents if I recall correctly and if I remember correctly promises 50 extra hp, 50 xtra ft. pds. tq and like 20 percent better gas mileage. The website is as follows: www.performancecombos.com If this kit does what it says it will it would put the engine output at flwheel at about 210 - 220 hp

You can find them at www.speedtweeks.net too. They give you a lot more room to fly with theirs however. They have stages 1 through 5 and stage 5 (street screamer) adds close to 100 hp to the V6.

I know a guy with an R/T and you have to put more into an R/T than you'd think to get it into the 11s. And at that point it probably wouldn't be streetable. They've put nearly 3 years of on/off work into it and it's just short of breaking into the 12s. No NoS or S/C just stroker.

I put 190,000 mi. on a '92 with a 3.9 very few problems. As far as I know the new owner is still rolling. 3.9 is a 5.2 less a couple of cylinders . You own the little bro. of a strong engine family. If it was 30 years older it would be a cult item today. However in todays market they are at an extreme disadvantage. Mostly driven by little old men with aluminum camper-tops and a dog riding in their lap.
