Has anyone replaced there muffler with a straight pipe?? Does this work and is it leagl

If so any gains and is it abnoxiously loud?

Waiting for my 2001 black 4.7 RC Sport 5 speed 3:92 limited slip

No muffler would be VERY loud. Would get old really quick. I took off my cat and replaced it with a straight pipe about 2 months ago. Add that to a flowmaster, and it was way too loud for everyday driving. Also, lost too much back pressure which made me actually lose power. Ended up putting a high flow cat back on it. Much better now.
