I have a 99 ext cab R/T with mopar performance chip and a cold air intake. I was looking to buy a 1989 corvette with the 6-speed manual and stock v-8. Does any one know from off the line experience if the vette would take my truck?
If so maybe ill just invest mods into my truck.

Thanks.. Bobby

The vette would take your truck, unless there was something really wrong with it.

I have a 90 vette roadster basically stock with an automatic. Only minor changes like K&N, and flowmasters. Last summer I took it to the strip to see what it would do and it was running consistent 14.2's at 96 with reaction times that are too embarassing to post but, hey, it was my first time. That is with a 2.73 rearend and street tires. I would assume the 89 with a 6 speed and steeper gears would do somewhat better as long as traction is not too much of a problem. I also have an 01 Dakota - nice truck.

Bobby,
The vette will win easily. Its all about power to weight ratio.
Vette has more power, and is alot lighter.
Email me your address and I send a pic

raced a 78 vette with my 93 dakota. was alot of controvesery after . i took him out of the lights ,and stayed there until i hit 3rd gear on the automatic, when he took me at about 30 yards from the end, but i was still there . it was a friendly race just a couple of beers, but he demanded to see under the hood of my truck . 2,4,6 cylinders, accel 8.8 wires. accel comp coil,K&N filter thats it
my truck is a 93 ,3.9L, 4spd auto, PLAIN JANE.short box, 3.55 rear 15in factory wheels

the vette 350ci 4 bolt , holley carb/matched intake, msd ignition , slighly larger bumper stick, torque converter , tranny had a massive shift kit , posi rear end 3.5 gears.
over the beers we talked about the race, his passenger thought it was kind of funny that he had to cut inthe secondaries to get by
that wasnt the only case where my little 93 held her ground. an F250 with a clever engine and a few other tricks got to my side mirror, and held him at bay ,that one cost me a cam but by god she wasnt gonna let him through.
i have more faith in that little truck ,if it and my wife were hanging of a cliff , id be driving home alone .

The mid and late 70s vettes were VERY slow all they had was a emissions 350 truck motor in them and usualy made less hp than a truck motor.

My dad has a 74 vette (stingray) with a 350. Everything is basically stock, he just bought it as a weekend driver to cruise around in. It is very slow. I think HP is around 180 for that engine that year. Emissions sucked the life out of the cars for a few years. I think I could have taken it pretty easily with the old 98 Dak 3.9 5sp.

If I was you I would just go ahead and start improving the R/T. Vette would smoke that ass.
