Subject: 3rd CAT REMOVAL???
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2002 regular cab r/t and I want to lob-off the turd on my exhaust (3rd cat). The problem is my crossmember is obstructing any way I can get to it. I know I could take it and have it done somewhere maybe but I want to do it myself for cost reasons and the hassle I would get. Now I have looked and the only feasable way to do this is to take the crossmember off temporarily and cut it off, but the problem is how in the hell can anyone get up in there to weld when the crossmeber is back on? If someone has done this or has any tips please help me thank you

I know this is what you are trying to avoid but, I took mine to a muffler shop. They cut the pipe before and after the cross member and custom bent the pipe to fit. They also took off the factory mounting support and weld it to the straight pipe. Then weld it into place. Cost me $60 bucks, saved me alot time, work, and pain. Hope this helps and good luck!

I also have a 2002 RC R/T and took the cross member off myself, it is just 2 bolts on both sides of the truck and then two in the center attachted to the tranny. if you do this just make sure you have a tiny jack under the tranny because taht crossmember also holds that up. Not a bad project to do at all!

I was thinking that was about the only way to do it myself. Matt did you have a pipe welded in its place or did you just clamp a piece in there? thank yo for the info

I was really short on time (i did it about an hour before i needed to go to work) so i just went to work with out anything on. About a day later of running pre-cats and headers i just took it to a muffler shop and they welded a pipe on with the crossmember in place, it was actually very easy. Glad I could help.
