Anyone have any problems getting the extra large turtle to fit in their 2bbl? When I went to screw mine in the plug hole the corners would hit the intake runners and prevent it from spinning any further.

Let me know if anyone else ran into this problem.

You are kidding, right? If not...

On the extra large, you first install the plug (use teflon tape). Next set the turtle in place and run the long screw thru it into the threaded hole in the plug you installed, using some kind of thread locker, locktite, etc. It is also a good idea to use a good name-brand high temp fuel proof sealant on the base of the turtle to mate it properly to the manifold bottom and get the best, smoothest airflow transition. Come to think of it, I did not get any instructions with mine, so I guess it might be confusing for anybody that hasn't spent much time wrenching. The thing WAS already put together...

I'm sure Mike D would knows how to install a turtle. I would suggest to find out how much material you might need to shave off the turtle outer corners. If it doesn't fit, either return it or grind it down some. I wouldn't mess the M1 any. Unless, it was like mine where the port separators where square like, I bet you could smooth out the air flow some by rounding them off at the edges. That might give you enough room plus better air flow.

I thought about doing that to the dividers. Make em like the leading edge on a wing, all rounded. I surprised nobody has done it. I bet it would yield 5-10 HP at high rpm.

hmmmmm , havent used my Dremel in a while.

Like I said Arkie...the corners of the turtle hit the edges of the runners on the manifold & prevent the turtle from becoming flush w/ the bottom! I may not have as much experience "turning a wrench" as you but I'm not an idiot.

By the way I take it you have done this to your engine? What size turtle did you have and what M-1 do you got..the 2bbl or 4bbl?

Ok got it in I just didn't know at first the thing was supposed to be disassembled...didn't say anywhere in the instructions about disassembling it. Took me 5 min after I knew what I was doing.

MikeD,
Sorry if I came across as condescending. I apologize! I'm an old fart (46) and sound grouchy sometimes - ask my daughter! I figured the problem you were having was that you were trying to thread the whole thing down into the EGR port, and of course the tips or corners shaped into the extra large pyramid won't pass the dividers as it rotates - you figured that out... mine is a very tight fit in my MPI 2bbl - in fact I did take my dremel and very carefully match the runner dividers to the pyramid. I haven't rounded those yet, but do plan to.

My MPI is rough in the runners and needs quite a bit of smoothing before I bolt it on. Also I'm waiting on a new type of modified throttle body to go with it and will match the TB base and top port of the MPI for best fit and hopefully, all around performance. This whole setup is going into a '98 Jeep Grand 5.9L with lots of other goodies. "LuxoCruise!"

Anybody wanting a turtle, just e-mail "Jeff Arnold" - flameredrt@hotmail.com - He was a pleasure to do business with...
Tell him I sent you!

You may have already known this about your M-1 but if you had it extrude honed you'd cut the flow loss from 15% to 5%...I'm sure a guy of your experience would be able to do it yourself, if not KRC Performance can do it for you.

Extrude honed!!! ain't got that kind of dough! Plus, that is way overkill for my style driving. And that's NOT something that can be done at home on a basic workbench. I kinda wonder what KRC don't do it either - figured they farm it out?
