I have been looking at the tranny coolers, seeing as how they are quite cheap yet valuable to an auto tranny..

What I'm wondering, is there anything really beneficial with the B&M SuperCoolers vs. say a regular permacool translife cooler, or one of the thinlines? I'll be probably getting one between ~15x5 and ~18x7.5, depending on what I think will fit with measurements. I plan to mount it right behind the opening in the lower front bumper, where I won't have to worry about clearance with the front grill when closing the hood (funny mistakes I've heard from people :) ).

So, my question is, do you guys think it's worth spending the lil extra cash for the B&M supercoolers, or will a plain old fin+tube cooler work just as well?

I would go with a Permacool. I put the midsize unit in mine due to I dont tow or plow. If I owned a 2500 Ram or an F250 I might go with the B&M. These trucks are not worth the high dollar stuff. Just My $.02

I put a #70268 B&M Supercooler on my 2002 RC 3.9 Dak. I don't tow, and my truck's not a 4x4. I just wanted it to add extra cooling, and thereby increase transmission life and dependability...hopefully. This cooler is the plate and fin type...thinner and more rigid than the tube type, and less prone to getting the fins dinged up from rock chips and all. I paid about $40 for it from Summit. I figure, since tranny coolers are so relatively inexpensive, WHY NOT get the best one you can?

I mounted mine right in front of the AC condenser, and my hood/grille clears it just fine...I did have to take careful measurements, though. Check out my install at dodgetruckworld.com...

definitely check out pistolero's page, his instructions helped out a ton (thanks again!!)

i have a b & m, one of the smaller ones, but i had to buy a fin and tube permacool type..i dont know if its the r/t's or just v8's or whatever, but i couldnt get it to fit without cutting. ALSO, when mounting in such close proximity to the condenser, DONT make my mistake of not using the pads that come with the mounting things. if you cant use pistolero's design for some reason, i can email you pix of mine. i went a step further than the pads that come with the kit,k and lined the perimeter of the cooler (the side against the condenser) with weatherstripping 1/2" thick foam stuff. cheap insurance against having to spend another $600 for a new condensor/service.
