Subject: Disabling ABS for Burnout??

Anyone have thoughts on how this could be accomplished??

I would like to disable teh ABS for the burnout, but tun it on while I am staging and running the 1/4 mile. Never know what might happen on teh top end...

Toggle switch wired in-line to fuse?

Anyone out there ever try to install and use a line lock?

Thanks for the response.

ABS stands for Anti Lock braking System, it has nothing to do with TCS or any other traction control system which none of the Dakotas or Rams have. You don't want to mess with your ABS, it's expensive and can save your butt.

Anthony,

Thanks for the response, however I am fully aware of what ABS means and how it works.

Has anyone else ever tried to do a burnout with an ABS equipped truck? Unless you have a line-loc, you have to use the normal brakes to hold the truck in place. While doing this the ABS system senses that there a an inproper amount of wheel movement for the MPH, and it trys to compensate.

When you release the brake and head into staging, the system is still engaged and it is difficult to modulate the brakes for proper staging.

I can't be the only one out there that has experienced this..

Anyone??

When I do a burnout, I tach up to 3000 or so, dump the clutch and move my left foot onto the brake pedal immediately. I am usually at about 3/4 throttle in 2nd gear. Then, when I see smoke in the left mirror, I release the brake and mat the pedal. Once the slicks start to bite I let off the gas. A lot of the time, the rear ABS activates as I let off the gas and get on the brake, but I never have trouble stopping it before I get to the staging beams. But that's at an NHRA sanctioned track where all the distances and dimensions are correct for the big boys. If you are at an outlaw track where the burnout pad is short, I can see that being a problem.

As for how to overcome? I don't know.... I think installing line loc would be overkill, but I know a Dakota guy who has one installed on his 1995. Don't know what to tell you.

Thanks Alex.

I will try to modify my procedre a bit and let the truck track out a little more after the inital spin.

Just installed a 4.10 gear set over the holiday. I suspect the change from the 3.55 will impact the burnout anyhow.
