Subject: Still More Mod's To Go...
IP: Logged

Message:
I had a post earlier about what modifications I should do next and the biggest responce I got was Nitrous. But I definatly do not want to do that. I dont want to decrease the life of my engine what-so-ever. I need to get atleast 200,000 out of it. I've been reading a lot about roller rockers and cam's. What exactly are the functions of these two things and would either be a good addition to my list? If not... what would you suggest?

Thanks!
R.

Roller Rockers 10-15hp 15-20tq Not at the wheels

Pros:
1. Higher Lift(1.7 ratio Vs 1.6)=More Air flow=More Power
2. Less resistance from the roller tip and bearing rocker.

Cons:
1. Need steel Rocker (Much Higher cost)
2. Aluminum wears out around 30-40k.
3. Higher valve spring stress & pushrod angle.
4. Requires Larger Valve Covers (More Cost)
5. Requires valve lash adjustments
6. Some times increased valve train noise.
7. Requires Stud installation Vs normal Bolts

Cost: $500-600

Cam: 10-60hp 20-80tq

Pros:

1. Wide range of Combo's for any application
2. More power
3. lower cost
4. better exhaust tone

Cons:

1. If to radical, PCM problems, Wrong Power Band
2. Emissions
3. Requires Skill to install
4. Cost for install if not skilled

Both mods should cost you about the same amount.

Part $295.00 for a new core. $200-$300 for install.
Re-grind $230.00?
