Subject: 5.9 breathing question ?

I have the K&N FIPK and will be adding a 50mm TB very soon, then 1.7RR's. Will these three intake mods be too much for the stock exhaust system to handle ? Or will it be a must that I get headers and remove all the cats in order to reap the benefits of more air ?

2002 R/T: B&G Flash, K&N FIPK, S-Bolt, 180Tstat, removed clutch fan, Borg/Warner Cap, 3923's, MOPAR Wires

Don't worry about it, the exhaust is more than enough. Unless your pushing 5600+rpm the exhaust will push enough CFM. I did some testing some time ago, I was using FIPK2,50MM,M1 2BBL,1.7RR,Gibson Headers. I cut the third cat off, I even ran it straight out of the Y-pipe to see if it would gain any performance. No power gain I even lost torque even with having pre-cats.

Shortly headers are more for looks than performance,(full length) the stock log manifolds flow more than you think! The thick cast iron keeps in the heat thus speeding up the air flow rather than a shorty header which lets all the heat into the engine bay while taking up room. You'll burn things up fast with cheap headers. I have a semi stock exhaust system, which is still good enough to push enough air out with my Cam,Heads and more.

If you modify you exhaust and start to get that redneck poping noise when push, you know the system flows more than it should. You want a nice deep constant flow for enough backpressure.
