Subject: what is your ET goal
IP: Logged

Message:
Just a little survey. With most of us modding our trucks there is point somewhere where we say ,"I`m done dumpin $$ into the engine and I`m happy with its performance" Some may never say that. Sure we all want an 11sec. daily driver but realisticly , how fast do you want your Dak to be ? (1/4 mi. performance)

I want a mid 12 sec. streetable R/T. Something that`ll rip off 12.7 - 12.8 no prob.

That should be enough to kill most of the competition - Camaro SS , Mustangs , Rice , Lightnings , WS6 , M3 etc....

How about you ?????????????????????

Big torque...

I would hope that with a Paxton charger 6psi, 72MM TB, cams, headers, and slicks I would be in the low low 13's....With more boost, custom flash, and HO intake maybe 12's...

But yeah my ultimate goal is a 12 second VERY streetable vehicle. Something to tame most.

13's on street tires on the motor.

Then we'll look into forced induction.

But by that point, I'll need a new bottom end. No sense in huffing on a 70,000 mile bottom end. It's just gonna break anyhow.

We'll see......

Mid-13's with the 318 and bolt-ons - no NOS or Blower , Once I get to that point I should have the 408 done - I want mid-low 12's with the 408.

what defines the 'top end' and the 'bottom end' of the engine? is the bottom end the rotating assembly?? im confused on that.

MikeD , still runnin lean ? I still have yet to see the L-killer combo (KRC) run a mid to low 13 like he says it would. Its makin about 320 RWHP but seems like tuning and traction are the probs.

Good goals , guys.

Lets hear some more !

Yes, the bottom end is generally the crankshaft, rods, pistons, etc....

The top end is the intake manifold, the heads, the cam(s), etc....

Once you get a high-mile rotating assembly, the easiest way to kill it is either spray it or blow it.

13 flat with no boost or spray on street tires is gonna be pretty hard. Maybe with a 408. 12.25 with blower and 100 shot with slicks should be no prob. i think.

bottom end - crank , rods , pistons.
top end - heads , cam , intake , TB/carb

BigTorque...yeah still runnin lean but I ordered a Holley high flow fuel pump and I just got my MSD up and runnin so we'll see how these final touchups do. If those dont help then its gotta be the 2 rear O2 sensors making it lean out so I'll need the Kat boxes. Guess its all just trial and error.

Low 12s on slicks should be a no-brainer, maybe even an 11 if I strip some weight.

High 12s any day of the week from any stoplight on 20" street tires through a pretty quiet muffler.

All that and a daily driver ;-)

thought I might hear someone say they wanted to be the fastest R/T - beating Ron Merx 10.77 @ 131.
now theres an ET goal.
Most everybody wants 12 or 13s. I guess a low 14 just doesnt cut it anymore.

The faster you go, the more you have to cut on the truck and the more risk of breaking parts. 11s means a cage, which means cutting up the interior. Not for me.

Besting Ron's 10.77 is merely a matter of throwing enough money at it if that floats your boat. But that is beyond daily driver which is beyond where most want to go.

Yeah, what Bob said.....

I could handle going low 12's with an occasional dip into the hi 11's while the track workers weren't looking too hard. No cages for me....

If I was to go 10's, I'd just want to go 9's and then you have to get licensed and step up to all kinds of safety equip. Fire pants, jacket, all that crap. No thanks.

I do like the whole Hot Rod Magazine concept of 12's with 20 mpg.... I'd still like to pull that off successfully in a Magnum powered pickup truck.
