What size filter is it???????????
WHO CARES????? (As long as it adequately filters the air and is easy to replace/clean, the other criteria will measure the desired improvements)

Actually it does matter what size filter you use. Your engine needs adequate filtering to perform it's best. To small of a filter that does not flow more then it's size can rob you of any performance gains plus burn that engine up. Lets take a look.. A 6" and smaller air filter from K&N or a no-name brand company will flow 600 cfm or less. That's not a good ideal filter to use on these engines. On a stock 5.9L or 4.7L engine you would need at least 700 cfm flowing air filter to get any performance improvement. That's why companies like K&N, Air Aid, etc use a 7" (700cfm) filter. Now, it's great on a stock truck with minor mods. But most guys that buy intake system are planning on doing other mods to the engine. (TB, Roller Rockers, etc) that increases the engines cfm ratings. That's why using a bigger air filter or a air filter that will flow more then 800 cfm gives better performance. So it does matter what filter you are using. S&B filters got my vote!!!

How much gas will I save??????????
This usually goes DOWN when making more power.
Besides, any AIR FILTER SYSTEM that claims to improve MPG is baloney. Any technically educated person that understands fluid dynamics can explain it to you.

Actually you would not lose any mpg when gaining more power. I currently own a 2000 Dakota R/T and have seen a 3 MPG difference on a road trip from Vegas to LA with my 360 Air Intake system. It does improve gas mileage as long as you have adequate air filtering to cfm rating. Basically more that you open up on the engine the less strain on the engine = Better power = gas mileage and etc. K&N wouldn't be a multi billion dollar company if it didn't show the performance and gas savings. Why do you think Holly and others have jumped into the air filtration business. They wouldn't invest all that money on something that would not work. Would You!!!!

it is made out of 3" mandrel bent aluminized steel.i weld two pcs together to make a solid

G-Forced tryed to make an intake similiar to this. The guys name was Bruce Guise I think. Awesome looking intake and got the filter out of the engine bay. I think his was ceramic coated. If you do enough searches on the net you may find pictures of it. His business shut down for unrelated reasons. It was a really really nice intake. He had 2 sizes 3" and 4" for the larger TB's. The truck was for sale on ebay last time I saw it. Might still be there. The concept was sound though. I'll see if I can't find some pics though. He never sold 1 intake. His business went under before he got to that.

Thats whats left of g-forced.com
They aren't a company any longer I don't think. There are three picture of the design. I was actually hoping to get one a long long time ago but the business went under. If yoiu could make the tubing 3.5" for the new design I think you would probably make all parties happy.

from what i could see from the pics, and what they said in the discription, they went down thru
the sheetmetal near the frame.that would require
the buyer to cut an opening.i wanted to go straight to the fenderwell where there is a opening all ready.this way it would be a direct bolt on.they said the filter was located near the
foglight, etc.that would require a hole saw,and cutting up,most buyers would not like that.
notice the rubber flap still beside the radiator?
should of been removed to allow more air in.
the routing is similiar, but mine is a smoother
transition.

i wonder what happened to their business?

Yo....saw the intake on Ebay.

Looks nice.

Question...what is the nipple fitting for?

And how much just for the tube? I all ready have a K&N filter with 3 inch opening for the tube and a fenco coupler.

Just interested in the tube.

Shoot me an email.

I do not want to offend anyone. But, when you say true cold air intake. You are coming up with an untrue statement. Espaecially on a 90 degree day, when nothing about it is cold. Even if you are going 90. You are just getting cooler air from outside the engine compartment. This is a good concept and is very achiveable to the average joe, and you truely get more power. But when it comes to these $300 systems it is a little rediculous don't you think? Even a one hundred dollar system is a little extreme. Fact cooler air makes more power. But when it comes to ceramic coating a tube, come on, the air isn't even in the tube long enough to even heat up even close to the temperature under your hood. You are also forgetting something else about my last statement and your own statements 700cfm (cubic feet per minute) that is 11.7 cf second, that is 140 cubic inches per second in a 3.5" round pipe even if the pipe is 36" long the air isn't in the pipe more than a few seconds, unless you have reversed cooling fins (like on the outside of an air cooled egine) inside the intake tube it shouldn't get much hotter than it already is. One more thing 5.2 liters that is how much air and fuel go into your engine every revolution and a significant amount of that is air, at around 1000rpm you are taking in around 5200 liters of air per minute. That is 86.6 per second in one second your engine turns almost 17 times. That proves my previous statement. You are also forgetting that you are driving down the road that means that the hot air off of your exhaust is being blown toward the rear of your truck not the the front where your air filter is.
Besides if it is 100 degrees outside your car the air that it is taking into the engine is 100 degrees nomater how you look at it.

In other words cold air intake no such thing.
It is the restiction of the box that is causing your power lose, not just hot air.

Something to remember:
Your engine can only take in as much air as will fit through the hole in your intake manifold any pipe large than that is a waste.

If you want cool performance:
Purchase a fuel rail cooler $40 at summitracing.com this will help

cooler thermistat about 160 170 degrees

Rid yourself of restriction:
take your origional air intake filter box and open it up enough to let your filter breathe, get a performance filter not a pipe a "filter"

If you want a pipe, pvc is your best bet. It is cheap and it works.

Personal opinion:
Do you want your engine compartment to look good? or do you want to blow people away with the quickness of your truck?

7 months between the last two posts; any update, nitroussteve? I'm happy with my homebrew intake, anyhow. Hey, Steve, are you going to the Fun in the Sun Mopar show in Chilhowee Park, Knoxville, Saturday, July 5? I showed in the 2000-up class last year, too busy to make it this time.

Dustin,

I too have made my own intake for my 4.7, I've even posted pics before.

Steve, and I, mean by 'true cold air', that it's cooler than than air under your hood, at any speed, by a little bit, at very low speeds-alot.

When none of the air entering your intake tube, originates from anywhere under the hood, it's cooler, even on a 100 degree day.

Mine doesn't look anywhere like Steve's, ferncos and Pvcs, and a double layered fiber board cut to fit so it only comes from beside the radiator directly, and the opening in the fender, which comes from under the windshield.

Good day,
Todd Bouton
