I don't know about the rest of you, but the prices that are being charged for parts these days seem ridiculous to me. I know that a lot of this stuff can be made way cheaper. This being said I am about to make my first mod to my truck( cold air intake) To make a long story short I figure if I am making one why not make fifty and let everyone in on the savings. If others are interested let me know. But first a few questions. What would you like it made out of(stainless, alum, mild steel etc.) Would you like it repainted a standard color, paint to match, polished, brushed, etc.) Would you like to reuse the stock hat or should we fab a new one with more volume. Any other suggestions are questions gladly welcomed. I am going to start mocking up the proto-type over the holiday weekend. I will post pics as soon as I can. The more that are interested the cheaper it will get. As I make future mods I will continue to try and pass the savings. It may be a while b-tween projects.(Just graduated from collage, lots of bills, not income yet)

Steve Margetjak is making aluminum, mandrel-bent intakes that replace everything from the TB forward, for like $120 or something. This is just FYI, as something quality and price wise that you'd have to beat.
There are a lot of homebrew intakes out there.... but there isn't a true cold-air intake that ducts up to the inlet next to the radiator. THAT would be something nice to see in home-brew cheap version!
Also.... are you talking about the 4.7s or the old 5.2 and 5.9s?

sounds interesting Dustin, keep us posted and let us know what your going to charge. Just my .02 but I would dig a new air hat with 4' mandrel-bent aluminum true cold air setup. Color doesn't really matter, rather pay for quality than looks.

good luck bro!

I made a cheapo cold air intake. I purchased some heavy duty clothes dryer exhaust tube from lowes ( the thick stuff not crappy thin stuff) Stuffed one end into the intake box (removing crappy plastic bit)Then extended the tube to the front making small slits in it to go around the a/c lines. Got it as close as I could to the very front. I then secured the end of it with some thick zip ties. I don't think that it was all that effective due to the rest of the intake being stock but I was pushing cold air into it. I had no major problems but I removed it because my bung hole puckered up when it rained, was dusty and lots of bugs flying around. The thought of all that crap hitting my air filter made me uncomfortable. Anyway just my two cents.

I have access to about any equipment you can imagine so quality is not an issue. I was defenitly going to have the final product manderal bent. I was hoping to hear interest in the true cold air intake. I was thinking of playing around with a dual snorkel setup. But at first glance it appears that sheetmetal mods may be in order. I dont care, but a sure a lot of you dont want to hack up your new truck. But if you are interested, lets hear some feedback.
