The 46RE and 727 pans share the same bolt pattern and shape, but the 46RE pan is deeper than the 727 pan, so a 727 pan will NOT fit, because the fluid pickup in the 46RE is dropped a like amount (about an inch or so) as the extra depth of the pan, which would prevent the 727 pan from seating on the gasket surface. Even if it did fit, you would be robbing yourself of about 2 quarts of fluid capacity. Not a good thing for a 46RE. Chrysler engineers made the pan deeper for a reason. A 46RH/RE pan will fit a 727 though. Mopar Performance sells a deep pan kit for the 727 that is in fact just a 46RH/RE pan with a little extender gizmo to lower the pickup.

I'm installing a 46RE pan on my '75 D200 without the "extender gizmo". We'll see how it works. I would think that you would want the filter further up from the bottom of the pan since all the debris and s@#t tends to collect there. I would rather have it at the bottom that in the filter. We'll soon see.....

just hope your pick sits low enough in the pan to not get exposed under hard acceleration, braking or cornering, then you'll starve the tranny of fluid.
