Ok, so i got some Bosch 4417's because i read somewhere that people where having good luck with them in their 4.7s. Then I come accross a few posts saying that it is the worst thing to put in your engine. Now, which is "right"? should i take them out? I thought they where "supposed" to be some nice plugs. Any tips would be great.... im quite worried about this. Dont want to mess up my coils and what not.

Glen,
If the 4417's are the Bosch +4's, go for it. They are a great improvement (or at least I think they are) over the stock plugs. I suggest going w/ Bosch wires also. Good luck!

The 4.7L has the coil on plug setup (COP). This method uses a small inductive discharge coil clipped directly to each spark plug. It eliminates plug wires entirely and does not usually use the waste spark strategy so it has twice the amount of time available to saturate. This basically doubles the RPM capability of the system over other ignition systems.

Split electrode plugs are a waste of money because the spark will only jump to one of the electrodes at a time.

A platinum tipped plug will easily last twice as long on most engines. There just isn't any rocket science here.

Thin wire Platinum plugs can't carry heat away as fast as a larger copper core in a more conventional plug. There is a difference is resistance but it's nill, forget about that issue. If you want to go to platinum, get a 180Deg t-stat go for it.

4417's look like a gimmick to me.

I stand corrected, I'm not totally familiar w/ the 4.7. That is my fault since I shouldn't of spoken w/out proper knowledge. I have personally had a good experience w/ +4's and was speaking from my use of them. Sorry!!

I remember some person on the DML saying their dealers did not recommend putting platinums into the 4.7L due to changes in the resistance from copper to platinum... this could cause the Coils to break somehow. I don't believe it and I have Autolite Double Platinum 3923 in my 4.7L and it runs, I think, better than before.

Went to a Flea Market last weekend & picked up some 4417 +4's at $2.50 Each. I'm willing to pass on the savings at the same price but you pay the shipping.

Al Prezioso,

Are you still able to get the Bosch +4 4417 plugs at $2.50? If so I'd like a set of six...or 8 if you have to buy them by the box.

Thanks,
Scott
