I purchased chrome Gibson headers. I know I know big mistake they do nothing blah blah, I'm replaceing them, BUT I am selling them to a friend and was wondering if something was wrong with them...here is my problem. I have had them for 2 weeks or so, from the day I bought them til now, I have been getting a burning spell comming from under the hood, no smoke, and its not a sulfer smell, just a burning rubber or something similair smell. I am buying mopar stainless headers, I was told they are the best for R/T's. Any idea why I am getting a burning smell?? thanks for the help. BTW I had my pre-cats removed.

The smell you have is just the gaskets. I installed Edelbrock headers on my 98 Dakota with the thick gaskets, and you should get that smell for a couple weeks or so, no big deal, just be sure to keep an eye on the header bolts to keep them tight while the gasket seats itself.

If you are not happy with the gains made by the headers then work on the rest of the exhaust. I wouldn't replace the headers. My opinion. I would get a Carsound high flow cat from Speedtweaks and performance muffler or cat-back exhaust system of your choice. Personally, I like Dynomax mufflers. But, the choice is yours. Your headers will then benefit, as will the engine, from the improved exhaust system. Headers should make a noticeable difference in most vehicles unless their is a restriction somewhere in the engine or exhaust system.

Those headers are on my truck and love them. Here's the catch. The castings hang over into ports of the exhaust on the heads and they kinda look closed up. Take them off and have a machine shop clean them up and you'll be a lot more happy about it. I do recommend the HIflow cat too and a catback exhaust.
