Subject: 50mm or 52mm TB??
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 R/T CC and I have started to some mods. I put a K&N Gen II intake, and Gibson Cat-Back Exhaust. I plan on a lot more like the M1, 1.7 Roller Rockers, Headers, Mopar PCM, but what I want to do next is the TB and I am not sure which one to do the 50mm or the 52mm, which one do you guys think I should do with these mods and do you think I will see the low 14's with the mods I want to do?? I currently run 15.6 in the 1/4

Dont buy a TB till after you get a M1 manifold... you can (after buying the manifold) get a 4 bbl TB and you will see some amazing gains, as long as your pcm and ignition is set up correctly. With a manifold, TB, roller rockers,PCM, and headers a 14 is totally possible. Also, get some type of ignition ie. crane fireball Hi-6 and a PS-91 coil. Ignition does a lot when you have a new manifold, TB, and what not.

i would not get the 4bbl TB. people are getting better gains with the 2bbl. also, i would get the 2bbl M1 over the 4bbl M1.

Jim, i depends on the conditions, and elevation of the track. oh yeah, driver makes a diff too! you might want to get some slicks. they cut 6 tenths off my friends time.

ether TB will give you gains

Injection is nice, but i'd rather be blown.

How hard is the intake to install?, and do you have to put a bigger T.B. on at the same time, or can you add that later?

Intake install is not hard but does take a few hours (2-8 hours depending upon skill), and you have to make sure you do it right (otherwise you will have some oil leaks).

You can do anything with the TB before or after, it doesn't matter.

Yeah, the 2-bbl M1 and throttle body are the better choice. If you want to gain some low-end and still be good in the mid and upper range, get the 50mm. If you can sacrifice some low-end and want to gain substantially on the top, go with the 52mm. I have the 50mm on my truck and it pulls hard all the way through the rev range. I lost some low-end with the M1 install, and the 50mm, along with the turtle, helped to get some back. I will be installing the new extra-large turtle later in the week, to try to get even more of the low-end back. Low-end is really important for me, due to the weight of my truck (5,300# with me in it). Hope this helps.

a "turtle" is a pyramid shapped thing that goes into the manifold. it helps direct the air into the runners better and gives you some lowend

Eric,

I see. Would a TB spacer give the M1 more volume and hence more torque? I know the Helix effect with some TB spacers dosn't work with the old manifold but would it work with the M1(less bends)?? Just throwing around some ideas.

generally more plenum volume can kill lowend. if the motor has tbi or carb a helix may work but on port fuel injection the fuel is injected right before the intake port, a helix has no effect on fuel mixture at this point because the turbulence it creates is long gone by the time it hits the port.
