Ok this is the situation. I have a 2002 R/T ext. cab. What i have done so far: throttle body spacer, cool air intake, Gibson headers, single in duel out exhaust.
What my problem is: I put on all these parts with in the last week or so, when I put on my headers I saw absolutely ZERO performance, or sound. I have been told that removeing my pre-cats which are maybe 2inches from where my headers end and running drop down pipes or straight pipes directly to the single cat that is closer too my muffler. My truck was made in california and there they have more strict air laws that is why I have pre cats. In 49 other states there is only one cat put on. Any suggestions? I really need someone who knows there shiz to tell me what my options are. I was told since there are so many cats that my computer will not recoginize my parts that I put in. Right now I'm a little on edge about spending 2k in parts and installation and getting NOTHING:( plz someone help this is a distress call. email is urzos@aol.com put something about R/T or dodge in there so I do not delete it if you wanna talk through emails. Im located in Phoenix Arizona if anyone lives here that knows what they are talking about. Thank you...Patrick

Ok first mistake: you bought shorty headers, and that TB spacer is garbage. I wouldn't expect any gain from that setup, the pre-cats are killer. BTW- all 01+ R/Ts have three cats, not just the california model, I live in Texas and had pre-cats.

What more can I say, your not gonna get any performance gain with that setup, sorry.

You can get some new down pipes, 3" pipe with an aftermarket highflow cat and muffler, then you might hear a difference but still not get any gain in performance. You need to increase your intake with a throttle body, M1 manifold or something.

What I do not understand...and I am not insulting your intelegence by any means is this, how do I spend my money on parts that say they will increase hp by 30 here 10 there so on and so forth, and not get anything out of it? With replaceing my exhaust manifolds with headers you are telling me I'm not going to get any gain out of them? Sound does not matter to me that was just a point of the many. Also are you telling me to remove the two pre-cats? I understand with doing this that I will have check engine light unless you know a way around that. My friend/technician told me that if I remove my pre's that I will gain a lot of HP becuase they are stopping my cats, intake, and throttle body spacer from circulateing the air like they were desighned to do. What options do I have, should I replace the cat I have in the middle of my truck as well?? Lemme know these things because I am getting this stuff done on Monday and would like to go into it the correct way. Thank you for your input.

I had a few errors on spelling. What i meant to say was my heads throttle body spacer and intake are not giving me any performance due to the pre cats, is this true? should I take off the pre cats and replace em with downpipes and after that is done should i replace my remaining cat with a high flow one. Also are you suggesting that I change out my single in duel out muffler for something diferent? What would you do in my situation, you can rag on what I have all you want I just don't want to have shiat on my truck that isn't doing anything.

Let me just tell you how I did it (along with a lot of other R/T owners)

PPH (Mopar) headers
3" pipe, carsound cat, magnaflow muffler (your choice on muffler or cat)
02 simms box - tricks the pcm into thinking you still have pre-cats

$400 for headers, $100 for cat, $100 for simms box, $100 for muffler, $250 installation = less then a grand and I got some serious power out of it.

Don't believe the numbers they put on the box, you didn't really change anything with your setup. I'm not trying to be mean but what you did just doesn't really improve anything. The pre-cats, main cat and factory y pipe are the major problem with our stock setup, and you still have them on your truck. The TB spacer has been proven over and over again not to produce a thing.

Does this help?

If I was you:

Get the JBA down pipes
02 simms box
Carsound cat
and keep your cat back

That will make some difference you can feel. Also check out a fastman or F&B throttle body, it will really compliment your exhuast modifications.

Good luck.
