Subject: true dual exaust on a 4.7

I was wondering if anyone out there has done a true dual to a 4.7 lt. for example, two seprate pipes coming off the engine each with it's own high flow cat, and each running into it's own single in and out muffler. Oh, 3' all the way down. I just wanted to know if it's worth the extra money to trully dual it out or if I should just dual it after the muffler. And, what would be a good performing and sounding muffler for this project with out the high cost of Borela, or MBRP. I would like to go without the cats concidering I have one on each side of the y-pipe, but I don't think I'll pass the stupid emissions test her in Houston. Any advice will help and be appreciated.

I've done it, but 3" diameter back is WAAAAYYYY too big for this engine. Try sticking to 2" to a maximum 2.25" per side. If you open it up to 3" you'll have very little velocity/pressure, and your torque will suffer massively. Oh, I don't have seperate cats (in fact, I have no main cats at all, just the precats after the manifold). I also used Dynomax racing mufflers, but I'll be danged if I can find the part number right now. Sounds great, get's better mileage (IF you keep your foot out of the pedal), and helped with the overall engine breathing.

FLOWMASTER HAS AN AWSOME SOUND ALSO THATS ALL I HAVE EVER USED, AND EVERYONE IS ALWAYS TELLING ME I HAVE ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDING VEHICLES IN VA BUT HAD TO PUT HIGH FLOW IN PLACE OF THIRD CAT SO I COULD PASS THE VISUAL INSPECTION, IF TEXAS HAS THE VISUAL INSPECTION JUST TAKE THEM OFF AND GUT YOUR 3RD CAT, AND I TOO AGREE THAT THAT IS WAY TOO EXTREAME FOR THE 4.7, THE ONLY WAY THAT WOULD BE NEEDED IS IF YOU HAD A SUPERCHARGER ON YOUR TRUCK CRANKING OUT ABOUT 12+ PSI, DEMON IS YOURS A 4X4 OR 4X2?

Demon, Hemikota Soon said that's to extreme for the 4.7 w/o a super charger. I noticed that you have an H.O. cam and intake, so a little more flow is appritiated out of your 4.7. Do you also think it'll be to much flow out of my bone stock engine even using 2", or 2-1/4" pipe? Also do you ( and this ? goes out to you to Hemikota) have the emisions test in GA, and in VA were they stick the auto anal probe in the tail pipe? Thats what we have here in Houston, and I was just afraid that it won't pass if there's no third cat or if I hollowed out the third cat. Sorry for all the ?'s, but I want to get it right the 1st time.

IN NORTHERN VA THEY USE WHAT WE CALL THE SNIFFER, IT JUST TEST THE AMOUNT OF TOXINS YOUR VEHICLE PUTS IN THE AIR, I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A 2001 CHEVY COMPLETELY STRIAGHT PIPE WE GUTTED AND RAN A PIECE OF ALUMINZIZED PIPE THROUGH IT AND HIS TRUCK PASSES THE SNIFFER CAUSE HE GOT PULLED IN FAIRFAX FOR IT, HELL CATS ARE WORSE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THEN STRIAGHT PIPE, BECAUSE CATS TURN THE FUMES INTO SULFER MONOXIDE AND WHEN MIXED WITH WATER YOU HAVE ACID RAIN, SO THEY REALLY NEED TO TELL THOSE TREE HUGGERS TO GO FUC% THEMSELVES AND MAKE ENGINES LIKE THEY WERE MENT TO BE, SCUSE THE MOUTH. AND WHEN I SAID TOO EXTREME I WAS TALKING ABOUT 3 INCH ALL THE WAY DOWN, IF YOU WANT YOUR TRUCK TO HAVE HIGH END TORQUE BIG EXHAUST IS WHAT YOU WANT IF YOU WANT LOW END EXHAUST STAY WITH ABOUT A 2" EXHAUST WITH TIPS AND A Y PIPE AFTER THE THIRD CAT GO WITH FLOWMASTERS AND YOUR TRUCK WILL SOUND MEAN.

We have emmisions in the county I live in, but I don't have to get anything done for 3 years. There's a grace period for new vehicles.

Hey where are you guys living without emmissions!! I'm in california, and I want to do a dual setup, but eveyrone is telling me to just go with headers and a cat back system. I have a question for you guys, whats the best possible way to run dual pipes and still pass smog in California?

Also, and this ? is for anyone, will it throw up and error codes in my computer if I take the third cat off and run an aluminum piece of straight pipe through it? I would just take it off but if the emmisions testers don't see a cat on my truck I could get fined. So, with what I'm wanting to do, they'll see the cat but hopefully they won't know I'm bypassing it internally.

This ? is for anyone around the Houston area, will I fail the new emmisions test by bypassing my third cat, and just useing the precats?
