Subject: Magnum engine upgrade?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought a 91 Dakota 5.2L and wondering if there is any way to upgrade the motor to a magnum setup.

What is the difference in the magnum engine? Is it just the fuel injection system (multi-port)?

I know the magnum came out in 92 and produces much more power (I've also got a 93 Dakota with a 3.9L).

Please let me know any suggestions for getting more power out of the 91 5.2L without breaking the bank. Thanks!

93 3.9L, 5-speed

The Magnum engine also has a roller cam, and lifters, with all engine operating parameters governed by the PCM. There are mods you can do to equal and surpass the horsepower of the magnum motor

The magnum heads are different too. i know you can't bolt a magnum multiport intake to the old la heads. Different mounting angle I think. A cam in your 91 would be a good start. Should be fairly inexpensive.

Edelbrock has a Performer and a Performer RPM series cam, intake manifold and carb combo. My Dad through a set on his '72 Cheby 350 and it hauls ass for a big ass longbed. I would have bought a '91 318 if I could have found a nice one!
