So I calculated my volumetric efficiency based on my stock dyno run I did ... the spreadsheet can be seen here:

I just used a formula I found off some performance website, so I haven't verified or validated it. Any thoughts? Insight?

I am almost willing to bet that the peak in the VE (which falls inline with the peak in TQ) is due mostly to the intake manifold .. otherwise, it looks like the VE curve would be flat.

it is possible to get RPM ranges that are abot 100% .. how do you think little 4-cyl. V-Tec engines make the hp they do?

My curve may be off a bit, I used a 15% drivetrain loss to get those VE numbers (the hp/TQ is rear wheel numbers) .. if I used a higher drivetrain loss (20%) then the VE numbers are even higher ... if I use a lower (10%) then the VE numbers get lower .. but 10% seems pretty low for a drivetrain loss.

Getting a VE greater than 100% on N.A. engines is done through port tuning .. in the 4.7L case, I'm guessing its the runner length tuning of the manifold.

VE of an engine isn't some arbitrary number that is assigned to an engine. it can be as low as 30% in some places, and well over 100% in places for a well designed engine.

FYI the average VE turnes out to be 81.8% so maybe that's the number you're thinking of

Achieving VE higher then 100 percent is done by tuning the runner length to correspond to an RPM point. As air is coming in through the open intake ports it is moving. When the intake valve slams shut it creates a shockwave that runs backward out of the intake. After it hits static air it is reflected back toward the intake valve and if the intake vavle is open then the shockwave travels into the cylinder creating slightly higher then atmospheric. Thus a VE of over 100% is created. Anyone correct me if there is anything incorrect about this.
