Not to insult your intelligence but your sure it isn't your clutch? Usualy a trans doesn't just go without warning. I have seen clutches go with little to no warning.

Well it makes a awful grinding noise when I try and go. Real loud. I was Accelerating around 50 MPH when It just went. Could be the clutch. I hope so.

As far as the warrenty, I havent messed with the tranny other than the Hurst shifter. I will keep you posted...

Your not alone CW. I blew my clutch at the track Fri while trying to shift to 3rd gear. The Dealership wont cover it under warranty either because its over the 12000 mi clutch warranty. WTF... this after only 23,000 mi?

you never know. I broke the input shaft on my first dak (2000 4.7) at 8000 miles. just went for a hard shift into fourth and boom, a god-awful snap sound

cudashoe- thats what mine sounded like when i broke it. When i would press then the gas the truck would move just a bit and then make a very loud grindin noise

Friction Disk?
IP: Logged

Message:
That sounds like the center hub is broken out on the friction disk. Matt Barret broke his and it had the same symptoms. I certainly hope that's all it is.

My clutch died with very little warning (started noticably slippin gon Friday, dies on Monday , 200 miels later).. I pushed in the clutch to downshift and then nothing.... For your pockets sake I hope it is the tranny, clutch cost me $700 at 32k miles... had to get a factory clutch due to being without a car... so i think in the spring I am going to upgrade before (I hope) this one craps out on me...

I was going to say the same thing as Duner. Kinda hope it is a trans problem then you won't have to pay for it.

Well I am worried about the warrenty. I think I am out. Oh well. I hope it is the center hub on the friction disk. I think I will just do it my self.

Time for the Shelby.

Funny u should mention that you NV3500 blew...

Go to www.krcperformance.com they have tremec tranny-conversions, and they mention NV-3500's blow quite a bit.

No question, going from a low 14 second ride, to a low 16 second ride is a big difference. But to be honest, the 2500 feels quicker than 16 sec. My kidneys are feeling better too !! The ride is much better ! Each truck had its own advantages.
I don't think I'll ever have a vehicle (car or truck) that was as fun to drive as that Dakota. The 4.7/5 spd/3.92 is just a hard package to beat.

Yeah that sounds like the exact same truck that I drove the other day. ecept it had 3.73 gears. 4.10s would be better. The hemi is way better than the 5.9 espesialy with that transmission.
