My local parts stores offer flowmaster and dynamax after market mufflers for my 2000 3.9 Dakota. Is one as good as the other? All I want is to lesson the back pressure and get a nice sound. I will just be replacing the stock muffler with no other major changes to the exhaust. Thanks

I personally choose the Dynomaw, I believe part # 17748 for my 3.9 '01 dak. Nice sound, doesn't rattle yer cage in the cab, low deep tone when you step on it. Try searching for mufflers here, there are a ton of posts, imo it all boils down to what your wanting. Performance increase? Slight, I think colld air intake helped more, imo. Easy install? yes, if your exhaust is 2 1/2", buy 2 sleeves on 2 1/2 od to 2 1/2 id. I also bought an additional hanger, to help stock hangers support. I've it a few months still happy. Good luck

pbxr, did the 17448 directly replace the stock muffler easily? Also, did you install it yourself? I'm trying to replace my stock muffler as cheaply as possible and want to try the install myself.

Thanks.

It looks easy. Just take off the clamps, bang the old exhaust out, slip the new one it, reclamp it. At least I hope it will be that easy. I think I'll get the flowmaster or the dynamax. Most likely the dynomax.
