I went into the local Autozone this morning to pick up some colder plugs I was gonna put in to see if it helped my pinging. I showed the parts guy one of the boxes that my present plugs (Denso)
came in and said I wanted one heat range colder. He gave me a set of 8 of the same plugs and said if I wanted a colder plug that I should open or close the gap .005" (he couldn't remember which one it was). Has anybody ever heard of this?? I thought the heat range was related to the insulator length.

No J, I've never heard of that before. I think your Autozone salesperson is full of it. Have you tried the Autolite 3923 plugs yet? They're a colder plug than stock and only cost 99 cents plus Autolite is offering 30 cents per plug rebate.

I'm installing my 3923's tomorrow. From all the posts I though it was 0.40. Puttin' in my cams and 180 RS T-stat too.

I'm currently running Denso KJ20CR-L11 3169's. These are the plugs that came with the s/c kit. Does anyone know if this is equivalent to an autolite 3923? colder? hotter?

j,

I have a 2000 4.7 CC auto with a Gibson 3'single out. Anyway, how to you like yor Kenne Bell s/c?
Since your truck is almost identical to mine and the next mod on my Christmas List is a supercharger, I'll ask you about performance (low-end torque, 1/4 mile, gas mileage all the good stuff).

thanks,

Sorry I don't have any numbers for you with my s/c. I can tell you that I'm very pleased with it and would recommend it if you have an automatic. I've never driven a centrifugal so I can't say how it compares. The low end torque is great and it's a lot of fun to drive. My mileage dropped by 1 or 2mpg. It really depends on how you drive. The boost is quite a rush and your going to want to feel it over and over again. But with the KB, if you don't want boost, you can feather the pedal. My only problem so far is detonation under heavy load when the thing heats up. But I'm trying to fix that and it's kind of a fun project.
So, I hope Santa will be nice and get you a supercharger. Good luck.

Thanks j,

According to the Kenne Bell website, your suppose to use the Denno Uritium (sp) sparkplugs like you stated. Sorry I don't know what that translates out in autolite plugs.
They seem to make a big deal out of running the S/C at cooler temperature so a plug rated at a cooler range could be the ticket. Again, sorry I can't be exact.
