Subject: Transgo installed but no OD!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 97' SLT w/5.2 auto. About a month ago I had my transgo shift kit installed. After getting it back I didn't have overdrive. When I hit the button it would act like it wanted to go in but didn't. In the process we had found some wear in the tranny so I had my mechanic rebuild it. Kevlar discs, bands, solenoids etc. I am running redline also. After a month of not having my truck I finally got it back and my mechanic told me when he drove it it shifted fine including OD. From the time I drove it off it hasn't but once gone into OD. After about a 100 miles my check engine came on. Same thing as before, it read 3-4 shift error. So after that came on the computer doesn't even let it shift until the computer is cleared. Why is it doing this. A previous reply I had someone said it was the resistor. My mechanic watched the video about the shift kit and said the resistor was only needed on diesel applications. Needless to say I am getting horrible gas mileage and have a slow truck. Any insight would be very much appreciated!!

normally what happens when u get a 3-4 shift error, there is something wrong with the TCC/OD solenoid.if your mechanic has a DRBIII, then tell him to hook it up and see if the solenoid is moving from 3rd to 4th and vice-versa on the DRB. the solenoid will only show a change if your truck is moving fast enough to shift into 4th. then also see if it goes into 3rd lockup and 4th lockup. what trans do u have by the way, 44re or 44rh?

Hey thanks for the reply! I have the A500 and I have spoke to my mechanic since my post. Your thoughts about about a new mechanic is a possibility.... He told me that my line pressure is 40psi during the 3-4 shift, and the others are 70, which is where there supposed to be. He is trying to figure out why the pressure is going down. Its kinda confusing to me but he said something about possibly a governor of some sort?, and maybe a weak spring. He ran the 'scan genius' on while he drove it and the computer read the start of the OD shift but wouldn't go all the way in. I don't know but its now gone for another week because I had to go back to school. I'll keep ya posted to what happens, thanks!

i had no problem with my transgo, however, most of the parts it came with were not used considering its sort of a 'universal' kit (even the folks at trans-go told me that)....maybe he used some unnecessary parts or something...
theres my 2cents

have your mechanic check your governor pressure sensor, see if its in spec and working properly.

Well, just to update you guys I got my truck back and its mint! He said he pulled off the valve body and said, correct me if i am wrong, the governer was bunged up or something like that but anyway this labor was free due to the malfunction so I don't really care at this point. He cranked up my line pressure which is now 75-80 psi in all shifts, sweet! Temp gauge working nice and cooler too. Thanks for the guidance!

If you check all of the above and find out 4th still want come in, then consider the possibility that transgo kit was improperly installed. There are some things that can be done to a 3 speed torqueflite that do not work on overdrive transmission that will cause overdrive to go out. That is why it is nessacary to have someone that is experience with overdrive transmissions installing these kits or someone that will read the instructions to the kit and not make assumptions about it. I am not saying that is what has happened because I don't know what happened. I do know that when I was having the Transgo kit installed in my transmission that I was there as was a couple of other people. Someone asked Bill why he didn't make a certain mod that is generally common to shift kits. He said well that if he did that I wouldn't have any overdrive. I didn't want to mention this because now I am going to have to go ask him what that was as I was not paying attention to what was being said. I have seen similar posts on this subject and I thought at the time that with all the people responding my input wasn't needed. Now I am wondering if a lot of it is caused by making these mods and/or not folllowing the instructions. I will go ask Bill so you can be aware of this. You may have to go back in the trans to correct the problem. Lets hope this doesn't get expensive. It may take a couple of days for me to track him down since this is weekend. So hang on.

Regarding the TransGo kits....
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey I have a question regarding the TransGO kits... I just got a 00 4.7 dak and I have been searching for a shift kit for it, looked at TransGo and found nothing specific for the new 4.7. Can someone tell me what tranny I have... And if in fact the kit you were all talking about is universal then should I just order that and start reading the instructions?

BTW I just got my first mod more for sound you could say, got the flowmaster cat back bolt on and am quite happy with the way it sounds. And also off the subject... Have any of yall had any experience with the Mopar computer for that motor?

Any answers are greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks-
